  1. Hey I got back from the school, but did not get admitted . Best of luck with you guys, hope you guys receive some good news!
  2. Hope all of us get an acceptance offer . Did you guys apply anywhere else? I applied to University of San Francisco, NC State, and Queens (Canada), NC State being my top choice. I have not heard of USF before I apply, do you guys know anything about the analytics program offered in USF? How that program is reputation wise?
  3. I did my interview last Wednesday, they told me I should be notify with a decision in 10-14 days after the interview. They advise me to contact them, if I don't hear anything back in 2 weeks. @thoreau-away & @throwaway1234 - I think you guys should definitely contact the school and find out about the decision. @emco - congrats!! Do any of you know, how many out of the 85 spots have been filled already? I forgot to ask that during the interview
  4. Hey...I have an interview next week, can you advise me how I should prepare? Is it technical or just general interview (for example, tell me about yourself, why did you apply to this school)? Thanks
  5. Hi, You should look into the NC State analytics program (http://analytics.ncsu.edu/). The school provides employment statistics of their students, and as far as job placement is concern, it will be worth it to take the master's degree. I applied to USF and it seems like most of the students end up working for companies in Silicon Valley. Hope this helps and best of luck!
  6. @TakeruK - thanks so much for the information, I was also more incline to tell them the truth. @SocGirl2013 - thanks so much for your feedback. the school that I signed the letter gave me a three week deadline. I haven't heard back from the other schools after two weeks, hence I signed the letter, I guess I should have wait, it was a mistake from my end!
  7. Hello, I am not sure if I posted in the correct forum. I recently signed an acceptance letter (but have not paid the deposit yet). However, today I got accepted to another school, which I want to attend more than the school that I signed the letter. Is it too late to back out now? Do you think the school will tell me to pay the deposit as a penalty? When I write the school an email, should I tell them the truth? Thank you and please advise.
  8. Hello, I am a long time reader and a first time writer. I graduated with a computer science degree in 2007 with a 2.2 gpa in Canada. My low gpa was not due to illness, family matter, or anything, it was just due to lack of motivation. Last year, I started become interested in operations research, and I decided to pursue a master degree in OR (preferably in US). Before, I applied to grad school, I decided to go back to school and take some courses to bolster my gpa. However, I am debating between the two options, and this is where I need your advice: 1. Go back to my old school as a non-degree student. Pros: - One of the best school in the country. - Lots of research opportunity. Cons: - GPA won't reset, hence the grades that I will receive will be accumulated to my existing transcript. Thus, even if I get a 4.0 gpa for two years, my overall gpa will be around 2.8 . 2. Go to another university in the same city. Pros: - gpa will reset -- starting from scratch. - some of my friends, who transferred to that school told me, the workload is easier and getting a high grade is easier than my former school (you would still need to work hard though). Cons: - lower ranking than my former university. - less research opportunity. - nevertheless, i would still need to submit my former school's university, when I applied to graduate school. Any thoughts? Your advice will be much appreciated. Thanks
