Thanks for the kind words! Maybe I will get off the wait list for U of T. But I have been admitted to U of Waterloo's part-time BSW program to start this fall. And that may very well be the best - although longer - path for me. It'll give me more time to save up money in order to take time off to go back full-time to get my MSW. I guess getting into the advanced program will be easier as they seem to accept more applicants.

And I have a consolation prize! I'd already determined that if I don't get into a full-time MSW program this fall, I'll be taking a trip to England in the fall. England is one of my favourite places in the world and I haven't been in 19 years. Something to look forward to!

Congrats to all those who have been accepted. Judging by the posts on this site, I know you're all going to be spectacular social workers and will make the world a better place for us all

Although MyFile at York changed to "reviewed-unsuccessful" and I subsequently received a form letter in the mail saying pretty much the same thing, I e-mailed the School of Social Work and asked for confirmation. After all, they had previously told me that I was on the waiting list. They promptly replied and told me that my application was not successful, etc. A week later? I get another e-mail saying no, actually it appears that I am on the waiting list.

Really these people should give up on Social Work and go into drama. They'd be great at writing farce.

I'm looking forward to working with you all one day, in the field of social work. Our dedication and perseverance and desire to get into this program say something about the kind of social workers we're all going to be one day

    Hi LOLBRBY2K,
I understand and feel the same as you and would like to get official word either through MyFile, e-mail, or letter. Knowing that acceptances have gone out as early as the beginning of April, I've lost my earlier confidence. However, I knew there would be tough competition and I'm so pleased for those who've got in I have also applied to a part-time BSW program and I think I should get accepted as places are no where near as limited. Hopefully, with a BSW, I'll be able to get into a 1-year MSW program. Plan B will take an extra year but maybe that's just what I need to make me a better social worker when I do finally get there

Yes, congrats to everyone for being accepted and/or making it this far. The important thing is to have some great social workers out there helping to make the world a better place for us all

Thanks, Nala, for reminding us of this! I've applied to the 2-year program but I also applied for a BSW program as back up. I feel very confident that I'll get accepted into that one, so at least I'll still be on the path even if it will take a wee bit longer. I know I'll feel disappointed if I don't get accepted into the 2-year MSW but I also realize that I could still be a top contender and not necessarily make it into the top 20. We should all be proud of ourselves for having made it this far. We've got a BA, we've got at least a B+ average in our studies, and we've got experience. The field of social work awaits us, just may take a little more time than we hope And, heck, I'm 46 already, so what's an extra year or two?

Hey Stephanie, don't feel bad about not hearing back from York yet. Gina, the department secretary, said we'll know by the end of the month. I'm surprised to hear that one person has received an acceptance letter from them already, as I know they haven't finished reviewing the applications. But I'll wait another 3 weeks before I start to feel panicked

A number of people have referred to a "survey page." Can someone please tell me what that is?

I know some people are reporting having received offers of admission for York's MSW program. Are these offers for the 1-year or 2-year program? I've applied for the 2-year program and been told by the department that offers won't be mailed out until the end of April. I believe that the 1-year program receives offers first.

Of course I've checked York's MyFile obsessively every day since I applied in December. Really glad I did check, though, as I found out in January that I was declined. I called them to follow-up as I didn't understand why I was rejected so early in the game. If I hadn't called them, I wouldn't have discovered that they made a mistake in calculating my GPA (they calculated it at "C" which is below the minimum requirement, and my actual average is "A-"). After about a week, I was able to get them to fix the error and I was put back in the application process. Subsequently, I was nearly removed again because they said I'd only submitted two references, when in fact I'd submitted three (and MyFile showed they'd all been received). After another worrying week, they found they had all three references.

If anyone received a rejection, I'd suggest a follow-up just to ensure that it wasn't due to an administrative error.
