  1. I decided not to pursue Parson's associate degree. Rather than spend two structured years in a non-graduate degree, it just made more sense for me to either take flexible continuing ed classes or get enrolled in a reputable graduate level program. I was (very) luckily accepted into Pratt's graduate Communications Design program and started there this fall. It's been challenging but ...

  2. Hello,

I happened to google "associates degree from Parsons" and came across your post on this forum for graphic design. Did you ever pursue the program at Parsons or learn more about it? I am a "career switcher" as well except that I am actually in graduate school at the moment and would like to change direction completely. Nice to know of someone in the same boat!

  3. I am also on the waitlist for Pratt as of today. I got a two sentence email with the same May 1 timing and will get a written letter in the postal service. Does it make sense to call them or write them an email expressing interest in the program again? Or is better just to leave it alone and hope for the best?
  4. I Just spoke with the receptionist of the ComD dept. I was told that the first batch of decisions would go out in 1-2 weeks, by mid-April. It seems that my application is still stuck at the admissions office and is still being processed. It's complete (i.e. nothing is missing) but it hasn't even been sent over to the ComD committee. So it looks like I won't be someone who hears back by mid-April and will have to wait even longer! I was also told that they were inundated with applications and it is taking them a long time to go through everything. [sigh]
  5. Yes, I will also try calling. I had emailed someone in their department a few weeks ago and was told that no decision would be communicated before April 1, due to the volume of applications, whereas in years' past, decisions were often send out during the 3rd and last week of March. I will keep you posted on what I learn.
  6. What?? That is just nuts. I wonder why that is. They couldn't have gotten that many more applications from last year. Did she say what it was was that was taking so long?
  7. Good to know about the email system at Pratt. I only applied to 2 programs because I have to stay in NYC and already got rejected from one. I've really got my fingers and toes crossed for Pratt. I want to call their admissions office, but don't want to seem too pushy.
  8. From what I can remember of the info session Pratt held last fall, they accepted 85-90 people and 75-80 people ultimately started in Fall 2009. The acceptance rate was 45%, so we can assume ~200 people applied last year. I hear that more people applied this year though. Still no email for me. I wonder what that means...
  9. I applied to Pratt's MS in Communications Design program. I haven't heard anything yet...the suspense is killing me! The Results Forum has two posts from people who got an email saying that their "application is complete" and is being reviewed. Not sure if this means the review process is just starting. I hope not. I didn't get that email though. So maybe I'm already out of the game. Either way, just want to know now!
  10. I applied to Pratt's Communication Design program? You? I have not heard anything back yet.
  11. I applied to: SVA - MFA Interaction Design (still waiting for response) Pratt - MS Communications Design (still waiting for response) I believe both programs inform you by mail, by April 1.
  12. Hello all - I applied to Pratt's grad ComD program and SVA's MFA in Interaction Design program for Fall 2010. Has anyone heard anything from either of those two schools yet? Any expectations for when we would hear something regarding interviews/decisions? I know the deadline is April 1....just wondering if someone has better information. Thanks! You're welcome to post other design school's responses here as well.

  14. @teagnac & others - I've looked into the NYU SCPS's certificate programs in Digital / Graphic Design. Any thoughts on them? How are they regarded in the industry? Is this one way to effectively "steer a career change"? Or would I just be throwing away my money? Will I be able to build a portfolio out of this? Thanks again.
