The 1 year clinical program

I finally got my email of acceptance for University of Calgary!!!

I don't think waiting is a skill I possess, or one that I do well.... congrats on Dal!

Except that I finish my BSW this term, so they pull 13 completed credits from it and top up the other 7 from my BA :/ I am sure that when I apply for 2017 I will have way less to be worried about thank you for your supportive words!!

My GPA will come from my current BSW program combined with a significantly lower GPA from my first degree, so it will put a very big dent in everything. But, the faculty knows who I am and I have years of experience, so maybe they will look at all the hoops I've jumped (taking the BSW) and how many times I have applied and take pity on me!!

The advance standing program is the 1 year program instead of the 2 year "foundation year" program

Advanced standing MSW at UCalgary, anyone??? I am assuming it'll be the end of March, but I am trying to figure my life out and so much of it hinges on whether or not I get in.... I suppose if I don't hear by mid-April from them or MUN, I can safely assume it's a no, correct? Congrats to everyone that has gotten in!!!

Thank you for posting this! I was considering calling them tomorrow to inquire about it. One of my references completely forgot to send my reference in despite my relentless asking and it was 2.5 weeks late - so I don't feel very good about my chances I went to MUN for my first degree and I would love to be finally have a solid reason to move home, so fingers crossed!!!

Hey all - the waiting is officially killing me so I wanted to check out where people are at with hearing back. I applied to the Clinical MSW at UCalgary (currently finishing my BSW there) and Memorial/MUN, as well. I don't feel very confident in my chances of getting in to either - I did play up my homesickness in my application to MUN, however, as it would be the excuse I am looking for to move home. Has anyone heard from MUN and have lots of people gotten their acceptances from UCalgary?

Congrats, midnightrose! After a trip to u of c, I have learned that I don't even qualify for a bsw with my gpa, as they do not look at my applied degree in the slightest. Apparently, also, the msw successes had 10+ years of experience and being published has no bearing on my application. And my statement wasn't particularly very good. So, now I don't know what to do. She told me to take some courses there to help my gpa, but shouldn't I take them where I did my bachelors degree? My gpa is terrible from my BA, I will admit, but... Anyway. Anyone have some ideas? Grad school is clearly not in my near future so I have to re-evaluate things. Considering leaving the field altogether, but have no idea what I would do. And I feel hopeless about reaching the (admittedly) lofty career goals...

Well, I called U of C today to talk to someone, left a v.mail and she called me back to say that I am welcome to come in to review why I was unsuccessful. So, there's my answer - I hadn't even asked in the message! Congrats to all who were successful! It's tough and I'm sure you all work very hard in your day to day life so you all deserve it! Plan B = BSW (ugh) Plan C = MA in Public Administration Plan D = move out of the f'ing country...

This is horse shit, waiting on U of C. I guess I will have to go back and take a BSW. They are offering the course you need as a university transfer student this summer, so I wanted to take it, but after all this waiting I am pretty sure I've missed the deadline of when I can apply to take it. Fuck. Sorry, but clearly I didn't get in so why did they take so long to say so? So frustrated right now... need to get my plans B and C in order I guess.

So, if it took this long to get rejected, does that mean I met the basic criteria to be considered? I feel that would be the case, but wanted to ask. Would taking stats improve my chances? I could take an evening summer course I suppose....

Hey guys, I wrote to U of Calgary on March 31, got this reply, today... Dear Heather, All admission decisions will be communicated to applicants electronically, via email. Our office has started issuing the admission letters in mid-March but it may take two months to issue all the admit/decline letters. Admission decision will not be provided over the phone. On September 1, 2013 the system will re-open for Fall 2014 admission to the Calgary-based MSW and PhD programs. Thank you for your interest in graduate programs offered in the Faculty of Social Work! General letter sent to everyone?? Am I reading too much into them including that their system will re-open in September? I don't know at this point. I feel that it's just not going to happen again this year. I am so happy for all of you that did get in! I guess I will have to find a way to improve my chances. I can't really think of what else to do. I am hoping to get another article published and maybe I will take a statistics course or something, I don't know. I feel like 2 degrees and 6 years of front line work and a published article would be pretty decent. I can and should keep my job, and likely will, but I feel very frustrated and stuck these days that I almost want to quit with the state of the system right now... Blah.
