  1. Thanks, I really appreciate it Charlie. I havent been putting "Re: XXX position" or the job req #. Maybe thats why i havent been hearing back from much place lol. But I appreciate the help. I will definitely do that stuff.
  2. thanks for the response. but no, I mean when you start off the cover letter, it is advised not to put "To whom is may concern" or "Dear hiring managers". It is recommended that you put the name of the person hiring. So would I write it to the person in HR or the Head guy who is looking for an assistant?
  3. So I have written and sent off a handful of cover letter/letters of interest within the past few months. I know that you should do some research to find out who will be receiving the letter, and direct it towards them. But my question goes a little deeper in that. I am going to be applying for this one big job within the next week or so. So, I want it to be good. The position is an assistant position within a certain department in a D-1 athletic program. I know the name of the head guy. The guy that I will be working directly under and with on a daily basis. So, I know he will have a say in who gets to be his assistant. But, like all applications, you send it to the HR department. Should I direct the letter to someone in the HR or to the head guy? what exactly does the hr do with the apps? do they pass it on to the specific departments, or do they actually decide who gets hired? thanks.
  4. Yah kentucky is a different place. I am from california. So most other places are different than home lol. It would have been nice to get a sports management degree or even my masters for free but oh well. I know its not needed. More so just an accomplishment than anything. But it's definitely not worth going $50k+ in depth for. I have worked at all the levels of sports, so I have the experience and connections. Getting my masters was just something I wanted to accomplish. But oh well lol
  5. Thanks for the response Meems. Ya at first it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I've been wanting to get my masters. I got offered this GA position. But then he gave my spot away when I got accepted into the sports management program. So it's just not worth it paying that much as an out of state student to get my masters in sports management. If it was in state, then I would consider it since it would be considerably cheaper. but oh well. good luck to you. what sports management program are you in?
  6. This is my dilemma. I got into a pretty reputable sports management masters program. Getting my masters has been something I've wanted to achieve. But me and my family do not have the money to pay for graduate school. So the only way I was going to go was if I got this Graduate Assistant position which would have paid for my tuition, plus a good stipend. I was a long shot to get into this graduate program but I just found out I got in. I was offered a GA spot but then the guy said he already filled them. So I got kind of screwed over because I applied based on this GA job that the guy offered me. Anyways, I have an undergraduate degree in accounting. I do not have any accounting experience and I'm struggling at getting an accounting job. I have $30k of financial aid debt. This graduate school is out of state. So, I would be paying out of state tuition, which is more than 3x the amount of in state graduate tuition. So it would costs be around $45k just tuition alone to get my masters in sports management. Is getting a masters in sports management worth it that much?
  7. So I was offered a GA spot at a university. It was tentative based on me getting into its Sports Administration program. I took the gre back in feruary and was planning on submitting my application soon after. I had to get 3 letters of Rec but one ****** took 3 months to write it while one took 2 hours and the other took less than a week. The guy told me it was a long shot that I would get in since my gpa was under a 3.0 and that they are only enrolling 25 students to the program this year. I was going to just move on since I though that one guy wasn't going to write me a letter. But the guy pulled through and I submitted the app a month ago. Just received notice that I got accepted. So I got in contact with the staff member that offered me the GA spot and told him that I have been accepted. He replied and said the position has been filled. Story of my life. I really want my masters. Things have been crappy lately and I really want to go back to school. But there is no way I can pay $1200 per unit. I am already in 30k debt from undergraduate. Not about to go another 50k in debt. Is there grants for graduate school? Being $30k in debt already. got my BS in Accounting. Didnt get a high enough gpa to get an accounting job. With that being said, is it worth going another $30k+ in debt to get my masters in sports management? thats just tuition, it will probably be another $15k+ with rent and other fees. So getting my masters and then entering the work force with roughly $75k in debt vs. entering the force right now and probably make around $25k-$30k a year with $30k in debt?
