I'll claim a share of that Berkeley rejection bomb...
-
Ok, right after posting that, I noticed there is a result for it... but the person emailed the coordinator to check status. I'm not brave enough to do that yet...
-
I applied for the JDP as well, and there are barely any results to look at on here from past years. But, based on what there is, it seems they notify JDP a few days after regular Soc (which makes sense). I am expecting it to be next week... but I have nothing but past results to base that on.

So what does everyone think about these weird interview schedules? I'm assuming they are staggered at odd times simply because there are so many people interviewing. Some of mine have 35 minutes between them, and some 10. Do you think they will all just be short 10-minute interviews? I'm just wondering how much to "prep" for them... if I should be reading up on the profs' research or whatnot.

Is it ever too early to turn down an offer?
amlobo replied to pierrebrodieu's topic in Sociology Forum
I declined an offer already that I knew I wouldn't accept. If you are AT ALL considering the school, don't decline, obviously. But 100% sure you won't accept? It's never too early. -
"Recommendation for admission" from UCSD. Funding TBD.

Waitlisted - waiting for your school AND everyone else's
amlobo replied to RubyBright's topic in Waiting it Out
I am seriously thinking about where the accepted students at one school might have applied so I can figure out when those visit days are, so I know when they could possibly decline at the school where I'm waitlisted. Lol. And I love that the school says "You will most certainly hear from us before (or maybe even on) April 15th." >_< -
I applied, but it is one of my looser fits. I think they have a good program (obviously since I applied )... I've heard funding can be a bit dicey... not sure if it's true.
-
I just posted the Stanford waitlist. I couldn't take the uncertainty, so I emailed them, lol. At least I can stop waiting for a decision for now...
-
Also part of the Madison rejection bomb this morning.
-
I think it was probably sarcasm, lol
-
Congrats! Awesome news! Guess the "second round" is real...
-
If you look at past results... only like 5 or so acceptances were posted each year on here for Wisconsin (not to be discouraging... I am also waiting to hear from them, lol). But, yeah, I wonder about the veracity of that lone rejection....
-
I am calling this the "netherworld" of admission. I am there with UCLA and Stanford at the moment. No acceptance, no rejection. I figure it means either I'm being rejected soon or am on some secret waitlist...
-
I noticed Wisconsin didn't have a lot of admits posted on here last year... so I'm not really expecting anything more at this point. But, who knows?
-
Aaaaaaa! Congrats!!!

We all know that Aaron has strong mafia ties...

I've been accepted to one of my top choices, and they are really making a great impression on me. I'm now afraid that if I get accepted anywhere else, I am going to be so in love with this school that I will have a hard time considering others... even ones I had initially ranked "higher" than this school... lol. Must... remain... objective...
-
Bargaining chip? Lol.

If the schools you are waiting to hear from are of more interest to you than the ones where you have already been admitted, then I would hold off to see if they conflict so you can choose which to attend at that point. If you want to go to the current ones regardless, then I'd book tickets. Also, of course, you don't have to attend every visit you get invited to... so I'd make sure the ones you attend are the schools you "need" to visit to make your ultimate decision. My two cents
-
I would just be honest with them. Say you are thrilled about the acceptance and would love to visit but that you are in a wedding on that Saturday. Ask if you could come just for Thursday-Friday. They are people too and will understand. And you are already admitted, so they will probably be willing to work with you. It's not like you're blowing it off - you have a prior commitment... an important one obviously!
-
Nothing from Harvard or NYU. I have them both as mid-February on my little stats sheet. If any decisions were out, they would be in the Results Search. And, there's nothing posted yet, just FYI.
-
This, this, THIS. Even people who are current grad students only know what worked for them and people they know. You will get conflicting advice from everyone, and what worked for someone else will not work for you... because your circumstances and experiences are only your own. Do what works for YOU. If you are really flustered, ask one of your LOR writers or another trusted faculty member.
-
Thanks to you both for the info! I am a bit hesitant of Rice because they are so new, so I hope students are forthcoming about the program thus far. I hope they send more info on the visit soon...

Well, now there are 3... anyone want to claim? hmmm?
