  1. Ooooo, I should get back to The Sims 3... haven't played in a while! That is definitely a timesuck, lol. Perhaps then I can fixate on my Sims' goals and futures (which I CAN control) rather than my own...
  2. wood fire
  3. Wondering anything in particular? I rep my UG at college fairs and conduct interviews... but am not actually involved in selection. I get to give an interview report and recommend/not recommend admission. They didn't let in the last kid I recommended Lol.
  4. library science
  5. I had a missed call from Oakland, CA yesterday. I am applying to Stanford and Berkeley... so I took that as a sign from the universe, regardless of the fact that it was a credit scam.
  6. I don't know if you can count this as a guilty pleasure, but it is keeping my mind off things. I am teaching test prep courses 2 times a week, and it's fun to "play professor" and help teenagers beat the evil standardized tests. Lol. Also, I am conducting undergrad admissions interviews for my alma mater tomorrow, and I am kind of enjoying the power trip of being on the "other side"... mwa ha ha.
  7. So, both dreams I have had about acceptances have been about UT-Austin (including one last night!). UT-Austin also happens to be the first program to notify out of those I applied to (probably why I am having the dreams...). Today, I got my daily "travel deals" email, and the travel deal today is to AUSTIN. Gah! Leave my sanity be, universe!
  8. I wanted to add that I mailed the CV, then asked the grad admissions guy whether the online status website would reflect when they received the "optional" CV. He said it would... so we'll see... I just want confirmation that it gets there, lol. The online app definitely did not have a place for me to put some of the stuff on my CV...
  9. Well, I had a dream SO REAL last night that it woke me up in a frenzy, lol. In my dream, I got an acceptance email from one of my top schools... but it didn't come from the school itself. It came from some random community college professor who wanted to congratulate me on my acceptance. I was like, what? Then, an opera singer that I was in choir with in college also congratulated me on my acceptance (haven't seen her in 7 years!). I asked her how she knew, and she said she saw me on a list in the admissions office... which is strange for many reasons, but in part because I'm sure she doesn't know my married name, ha. By this point, my husband was telling everyone I got in to this school, and I still hadn't heard from the school itself... but I was terrified to contact them to verify and then have them tell me I was actually rejected.
  10. I have not sought out a ton of profs on there, but the one I came across did have tweets to/from other profs... so perhaps it's a younger academia trend...?
  11. I am glad to be an enabler!
  12. I also wonder why, for most apps, I had to upload scanned copies of transcripts AND submit hard copies. I'm sure it's to avoid "fraudulent changes" to scanned transcripts or something, but I like the universities that only check your hard copy transcript if you are admitted.
  13. I had one program contact me to say they were missing a transcript from my undergrad. I was a bit confused because I had sent transcripts from all 4 of my schools (undergrad, 2 summer programs, grad)... in the same large envelope. After I followed up to make sure it was all they were missing, they miraculously found it. I kind of just imagine that at grad admissions offices there is some room full of bags of envelopes, like Santa gets... lol...
  14. I made the mistake of looking at one of my POIs' twitter accounts (because let's take the craziness up a notch, shall we?!)... and saw she posted something about reviewing apps and complaining about SOPs not addressing why they wanted to get into that particular program. Cue me immediately opening my SOP to make sure I didn't botch it somehow, lol. (I didn't... I think...)
  15. A lot of the programs only have like... one acceptance date, then 20 rejection dates. LOL. What good is that?!
  16. So, I was stalking the Results Forum and realized that even though my "earliest" school notified people January 20 last year... the year before that someone got an acceptance on January 14... which was the second Friday in January... which is tomorrow the 11th. Now I'm thinking, hey they could notify me tomorrow! LOL. This is where my brain is right now. DelusionLand. La la la la la...
  17. I wish I could just hibernate for the next month, and when I came out, POOF, all of the decisions would be sitting in my Inbox!
  18. I am training for a half marathon, so that helps a bit. I, too, have been watching a lot of crap movies and having a "nightcap"... ha... zoning out in front of the TV does wonders for lulling the crazy into submission.
  19. So, after a nice 13 hour workday yesterday, I got home and checked my email and saw one that said "Sociology PhD Application" and got excited for a moment before I realized it was the program responding to an email that *I* had sent them asking about one of my supplementary materials. Lol. Oh - and I found a way to keep my mind off of apps, though only momentarily. I teach test prep courses and just started back with a new class... so for 3 hours, I have no internet access and no free second to think. So, for those 3 hours I am in bliss.
  20. I'm not sure if this is "tastefully" funny... lol... http://www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/the-25-funniest-autocorrects-of-2012 Autocorrects make me laugh like nothing else can.
  21. Yes... every day over is another day closer to a decision! Once I find out where (or if) I'm going, we need to put our house on the market... and my husband needs to start job hunting in our new city. I am trying to find ways to busy myself so I don't dwell on this for the next 6 weeks. If I find something that works, I'll let you know. Lol.
  22. I wondered whether I should, and then decided yes. I figure it probably doesn't matter, really. They probably just scan it in or something.
  23. I just want to thank you for posting this (!!)... because I mailed my transcripts to Irvine but didn't even think about the CV. And, having been out of undergrad for almost 7 years, it kind of has everything relevant I've been doing in the meantime on it, lol. Putting it in the mail today! Whew!
  24. Ok, so I just completed some deep introspection (ie - I zoned out at my desk at work staring at my computer screen for 15 minutes). I realized that my crazy obsession with checking statuses that I KNOW are not there is a self-soothing device. It's like... I'm assuring myself that I haven't been rejected yet, even if I can't know if I've been admitted. *Checks website* *Under Review* *Whew!* The second admits start going out, I will probably hide under a rock and cry... but definitely not check statuses. Lol.
  25. We have a calzone place that has a fig one (with other delicious things, I'm sure) that is supposedly to die for... now I must try it...
