I got a letter from UW Seattle about sending in $250 deposit. I just can't. If I have to submit the deposit before I hear back about aid, I will have to disqualify it as an option.
-
The background check for UW Seattle costs $58! I just don't have it right now--not with emergency dental work needing to be done nor knowing my financial aid package
-
Only one of my 4 schools has awarded some form of financial aid, so that complicates my decisions. I feel like I cannot make an informed decision until I hear the entire "story" for lack of better words.

Where are you applying? Applicants for 2013 =)

You should go to UH Manoa! I have a friend that is a social work prof there ;-) -
No freaking clue. Any tips? My heart is set on Chicago. I'm not really convinced an "ivy league" MSW pays off exactly. Additionally, I'm craving racial diversity. I'm currently in Phoenix--a land full of Caucasians (which I am, but still). But Portland and SUNY are the cheapest and I've only gotten aid for SUNY.

I got an email from Portland State. They finalized all advanced standing decisions. I got in!
-
I got an email at 2:19am.... I GOT INTO UW!!
-
I'm going crazy not hearing from UW. This is insane! And it doesn't help that my postal mail arrives late in the day! Ahhhh
-
All I can say is that I'm glad the Postal Service have not made Saturday delivery cuts yet.
-
@Thomas -- I'm not a PhD applicant, but plan to pursue a PhD at some point, so I stalk this thread a tad ;-) For the rest, I'll message you privately.
-
^^ @Thomasd88 I know a good amount of PhD students at Arizona State. Let me know if you'd like me to connect you to one.
-
Does anyone know how many students UIC accepts?
-
^^ You applied to SUNY Buffalo? My response was quick...
-
I applied too. I have an ID/Log-In from an email sent Nov 21, 2012. I'm incredibly nervous. It's one of my first choice schools but I believe they will also be the latest to return a response. I friended them on Facebook and it seems they are just now (as in the past day or two) opening applications. o_0

Despite repeat dialogue with SUNY, I'm not getting concrete information about type of internship. I don't see myself living in Buffalo, although I am not ruling it out, and would imagine moving at least to Westchester County after graduating. The jobs are difficult to find online and SUNY Social Work lists 9 positions on their website in the community, some of which are part-time. I think I'm going insane :-/ To make it worse, I'm now doubting my application choices.

So... my question is... how does everyone negotiate what school to attend? Loyola doesn't return aid packages till March. I'm estimating it will be $35k for advanced standing. I also got into SUNY Buffalo for $14k with scholarship for out of state. I'm really hesitant to go to Buffalo. I hate driving and public transit is nearly non-existent in Buffalo as far as I understand. But I'm looking at cost. When do you compromise city for cost? (It doesn't help that I haven't heard from 3/5 schools)

I am the odd one out at my university... out of all my classmates, I only know two other people that are applying out of state. As such, I am leaving the state to attend graduate school.
-
^^ I did one year at Fordham as an undergrad (although pre-law) but couldn't afford it so I eventually left. I concur that it is an absolutely fantastic university!
-
Ruby--I grew up in Salem... it'd be so weird to return to Oregon after all these years. Though, admittedly, I do have a love affair with Portland.
-
Thanks Ruby, that is helpful. Are you at PDX now? Do you like it? I'm a wee bit concerned about returning to Oregon--as I grew up there. As far as I know, PDX is the only MSW program in Oregon.
-
Thanks Paige! If that is the case, it's a no-go for me. I'm graduating in May as advanced standing and that's cutting it too close to make plans for cross-state move.
-
The wait is killing me too! I still haven't heard back from University of Chicago, Portland State or University of Washington! ahhhh!
-
Egad. Now I'm doubting myself. I'll be graduating with my BSW in May. I have lengthy volunteer experience. Most notably at a homeless shelter were I have worked with kids, families, and now lead volunteer orientations (as a volunteer). I also have experience with United Way, Salvation Army, a LGBTQ youth group home, a community action office, and various other agencies. I have everything from direct practice experience to handling social media profiles for nonprofits. Aside from volunteering, I presented at a statewide homeless conference about social service disparities for the LGBTQ community. I presently intern at a homeless coalition. Regarding research I have been involved in four projects, have done a poster presentation, and have a publication under my belt (2nd author). I'm trained in SPSS and NVivo. I also won the NASW Profession of Hope essay contest and have an active presence on Twitter which is one of my points of pride ;-) I love what I do and do what I love!

I have contacted them on Tuesday and have not heard back.
