  1. Hi everyone, I applied to the Mathematics PhD program with a Statistics concentration at Binghamton, and never received a decision e-mail. Has anyone received an acceptance or rejection from the program? I have tried communicating with the school, but to no avail.
  2. Hi, everyone! I will be attending Cornell this fall for my masters in Applied Statistics (MPS) Has anyone received their on campus housing assignment? Also, do you know when we register for classes?
  3. Hey guys! I just recently got accepted into the Cornell MPS program and am trying to decide between going there or Rutgers MS for Statistics. I do not know much about the Cornell MPS. Would my career prospects be better if I went to Cornell? If anyone could provide input, I would truly appreciate it Thanks!
  4. I will be getting my masters degree in statistics with a concentration in biostatistics at Rutgers University.
  5. I called one of my top choice schools yesterday to inquire about the status of my master's application in statistics. The secretary was very helpful, and said that all of the denial letters were sent out and I was not on that list. apparently the head of the department is doing evaluations and assigning aid packages and he has my file. So, I am unsure as to if I am accepted or wait listed. Any ideas?
  6. I e-mailed them, and was informed that they are still reviewing applications for the MPS and that decisions will be released in the middle of the month! That is soon
  7. Hi everyone! I hope your period of decision making isn't being too stressful. I am just wondering if anyone has heard any news of acceptance or rejection to the Cornell Applied Statistics MPS or Lehigh's statistics programs. These two are my current top choices and I have yet to hear from either of them. I am wondering how much longer I will have to wait. Thank you!
  8. I am Stil waiting to the hear from the PhD program at UNC for biostatistics. Is it wrong to assume rejection?
  9. Thank you so much, everyone! I just heard back from Rutgers and Umass, and have been accepted! Only 6 more left to hear from.
  10. Hey everyone. I am still waiting to hear back from a few programs, but I am in a little bit of dilemma with my two of my best acceptances. I am from NJ and have been accepted to the Statistics MS program at Rutgers, which I know is ranked 37 by US News for statistics. I would also receive in state tuition and be only 40 minutes away from my family, which is a huge plus. I worry about the safety of the New Brunswick area, but I feel like Rutgers has a better academic reputation than UMass. Meanwhile, I also received a tuition waiver and a 12,500 TA ship from Umass with the statistics masters program. I know that they math department is very good at Umass, but I have not visited and do not know what the area is like or how the department is. Financially this offer is wonderful, but I have never taught and worry about being far from home. Does anyone have any advise about the reputation of the department and what would be the better pick. Money is important, but I am willing to pay a little more to be happy. I am curious what would be better preparation for a PhD degree down the road. Thanks
  11. Hey everyone! I have applied to 10 schools for both masters and PhD programs in statistics and biostatistics. So far I have heard from two, Villanova (Applied Statistics MS) and Stevens (Stochastic Systems MS). I was accepted to both programs, but I am still waiting to heard back from 8 others. I was just wondering if anyone has heard or been in contact with any of the following programs. 1.) Binghamton University Mathematics PhD with a Statistics Concentration. 2.) UMASS Amherst PhD Statistics 3.) UNC Chapel Hill Biostatistics PhD 4.) Cornell Applied Statistics MPS 5.) Columbia Statistics MA 6.) Lehigh Statistics MS 7.) Hunter College Biostatistics MPH 8.) Rutgers Statistics MS I am started to get concerned that I have heard absolutely nothing from any of these institutions considering that I applied in December. My top choices are Binghamton and UMASS, but I have yet to see any acceptance for either of these program on Grad Cafe. It seems rather odd that we have not been notified as to whether or not we are on the waitlist.
  13. I applied to Binghamton University's PhD program in mathematics with a concentration in statistics and applied probability, and have yet to hear anything from this program. Has anyone gotten an acceptance into this program or heard anything recently?
  14. Hi everyone! I have recently seen several results for PhD acceptances to the UMASS Amherst program in Mathematics. I applied for the MS/PhD program in Statistics and have yet to hear anything myself or from anyone else on The GradCafe that has been accepted. Has anyone heard from them? I have also been unable to determine how competitive admissions is for this program. Thank you for your time, and best of luck in the admissions and decisions process
  15. I also applied to Rutgers for the masters biostatistics, and program application still says no decision. Do you know if the notification from the dean in the next week applies to masters or PhD applicants?
  16. Hey, everyone! I received a an e-mail from the department head of one of the mathematics PhD programs I applied to saying that I did not indicate in my application whether I am also applying for admission without their financial support,in which case they would not offer admission with assistantship to me. I honestly am not sure what to make of this. The e-mail was addressed to about 6 other students as well. However, why would the program ask me if I needed financial support unless they were interested? I hope it is a positive sign! Did anyone else have something similar happen to them? Best of luck everyone I know this time of year is so stressful with all of the uncertainty and waiting to hear back from schools.
  17. Okay, thank you very much for your input! I truly appreciate it.
  18. I am in the beginning stages of deciding where I want to apply. I have never been far away from home so I would prefer to be near myrelatives, but I wouldn't mind going 1-5 hours away for school if I have to. I am not aiming for Hopkins because I know it is far out of my league. I am wondering if there are any public health biostat programs that I could get into given my gre score? I want to retake it, but I took a class and prepped last summer only to do get a 1200. I don't know if I will be able to much better if I retook it. Thank you for all your help!
  19. I am mostly aiming to get into Rutgers or UMDNJ and am trying to determine if it is worth retaking the GRE or not. I know my GPA is mediocre at best. Do you have any recommendations of schools I could have a chance getting into?
  20. I have taken calculus 1-3, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, statistical inference, probability theory, regression analysis, applied multivariate analysis, design of experiments, and mathematical statistics. During my senior year I plan to take data mining, non-parametric stat, and operations research as well as computer programming to boost my resume.
  21. I am a rising senior statistics major at a small state school in NJ, and am interested in getting my MS/Phd in statistics or biostatistics. I am extremely worried about my admissions chances, and if my GRE scores are too low. I am not the best standardized test taker and ended up discovering my profound passion for statistics my sophomore year. My GPA is primarily driven down by pre-med chemistry and physics classes I took in my freshmen year. All my math and stat classes are A's and B's. I would really like to apply to Rutgers, UMDNJ (Biostat) , Columbia School of Public Health (Biostat), Yale School of Public , Montclair, Lehigh, SUNY Stony Brook, and UPitt. Being from NJ, my first choice would be the ms or phd in statistics from Rutgers University or UMDNJ due to proximity to my home. Do I have any chance of getting into the Rutgers MS statistics program with a concentration in biostatistics with my grades and scores? Thank you very much for your time GPA: 3.464 GRE: 1200 total Q: 155 (69%) on the old scale this is a 710 V: 155 (56%) 490 AW: 5.5 (96%) SIBS Program Experience Shadowed Biostatistician in Industry Expecting Excellent Reference Letters ECs: Math Club 4 years Alpha Phi Omega: Service Fraternity 6 semester member upon graduation. I held the executive board position of secretary for my junior year. I have dedicated hundreds of hours over the past three years to community service and chapter fundraising as well.
