Rejected by CU Boulder yesterday =( Now eagerly waiting to hear from UC Davis, or else I am gonna just go ahead and accept the offer from U of Utah, can't wait!
-
Applied to U of Rochester too but so far I have heard nothing from them yet. Applied to 6 schools and only heard from 1, but it was the one I was hoping to get into! Hang in there buddy!
-
Did you do this before you were offered acceptance or after they offered you an acceptance? What was the content that you put in in the email? I am just curious because I am planning on sending emails to my POI's in a school that I was offered an acceptance.
-
Another one from CU Boulder, you are on a roll!!! Anyway, I received an email from CSU this morning on my bed and thought it was acceptance offer. Kept reading with my eyes half opened and realized it was a request to schedule for a phone/skype interview. Well. it's better than nothing. Has anyone here done any phone/skype interview? I would like some advice from people who have had such experience. The person in the email told me that there will be 3 representatives talking to me in the interview and that kind of freaks me out lol, I mean it's always better to talk to them in person rather than on phone/skype isn't it? But I don't have the option to do an actual interview so I guess I've gotta prepare for a phone/skype session with them!

Unfortunately as an international applicant, I won't be able to go for any visiting weekend. Yea I guess you are right, I will probably send out a few emails to the professors that I mentioned in my SOP, telling them I have been accepted and interested in working for them. Thanks!
-
Guys, I am curious that has anyone talked to their person of interest after being offered an acceptance by any program that they applied to?
-
Shouldn't on campus housing be more expensive than off campus apartments?
-
Congrats!! please fill us with your excitement again on the next admission!
-
I truly hope you did not make the same mistake in your SOP hah! It's beyond fixing at this moment! It seems like there is a fair amount of people on this forum applied to Colorado State chemistry program. I too applied to CSU, but in the application conformation email I was told that they will only be reviewing international applications starting from March 1 Anyway aphextriplet, if U of Utah happens to be one of the schools you are visiting, hope you are kind enough to share with me what you learn about the school and place on your visit!

Where did you get these results from? Are they usually shown on the department website, under graduate program? And also, I am curious that has anyone talked to their person of interest after being offered an acceptance by any program that they applied to?

International too, in fact your neighbor country Being an international applicant does have its disadvantage, especially in phd program which you will be funded (extra tuition fee), and also having a degree from a university outside of the states, harder for them to judge your qualifications since they are not familiar with the education in whatever country you are from. And the schools you guys applying too are top schools, best of luck!

physical chemistry (which everyone hates the most)
-
which is going to make you feel extremely glad and proud of yourself when you are accepted!
-
Thanks! This is spot on, exactly what I needed!
-
Thanks a lot! If that is the case (~90%), it would be great! I was worried that it would be more like ~75-80%. Yup I will definitely look it up, but my first thought was to post it here, trying my luck for a quick answer at least now I have a general idea on how taxes work for graduate students.
-
Thanks! One final question, is there a proximate % of tax rate for a graduate student that anyone here is aware of? So I would get an idea of how much of stipends that will actually go into my pockets. Yea I get what you are trying to imply here, but scholarship is not my concern at the moment, as an international applicant I feel that I was fortunate enough to get any admission offer!
-
amlobo, viggosloof28, Thanks a lot for the quick response! Well in my case, I am going to be receiving an amount of stipends ($2x,xxx) and my tuition fees ($2x,xxx) will be waived. So I don't fully understand when you said 'if your stipends don't fully cover the cost of your tuition and fees'. I am guessing that the stipends are actually $4x,xxx and the tuition and fees ($2x,xxx) are deducted from the stipends, which makes the final stipends to be $2x,xxx. I hope I am not confusing you guys here

As per my earlier post in this thread, I was recently told that I have been offered an acceptance to one of the schools I applied to, few questions to ask here: Is anyone aware if there is any sort of standard procedure of things to do (to submit paperwork and whatnot) after I have made up my mind which school to go to? Do graduate students get taxed on their stipends? (my guess would be yes, but I just want to double confirm). If yes, how much % would it normally be, assuming the student is single, living on his/her own. I am aware that this post is a little out of topic in this thread, but since everyone seems to be checking and making responses in this thread a lot, and it would be great if someone can actually provide the information that everyone will need at some point in the future (hoping that everyone gets their acceptance in time!).
-
Thanks!! What a relief, did not expect to hear back this early at all, and this is actually my second-top choice! LMac I notice you applied to CU Boulder too, if you hear back from them anytime soon, do post it in this thread! (it's one of the schools I applied too)

Received an email from the graduate coordinator of the department, saying: "The faculty and admissions committee of the University of Utah Chemistry Department are pleased to recommend you for admissions to the Graduate School beginning fall 2013. Please see the attachment for further information." I have been told that this means I am accepted by the program, they are just waiting for my decision and then it will be reviewed by the university for final admittance. There is also a letter attached in the email, explaining the stipend they will be providing me, health care package, etc. Any insight?
-
What school are you referring to? Because one of the schools I am applying just sent me an email, saying the exact sentence that your school said to you. "The faculty and admissions committee of the University of Utah Chemistry Department are pleased to recommend you for admissions to the Graduate School beginning fall 2013. Please see the attachment for further information. The faculty and admissions committee of the University of Utah Chemistry Department are pleased to recommend you for admissions to the Graduate School beginning fall 2013. Please see the attachment for further information." The following is what the graduate coordinator replied me when I asked for a conformation from her, after the first email: "The chemistry department has indeed issued an offer for a graduate position. If you accept our offer your application will then be reviewed by the University of Utah for final admittance."

Just a quick question, do most of the schools do rolling admission? or otherwise? or 50-50?

Colorado State University University of Rochester UC Santa Barbara University of Southern California and maybe University of British Columbia Not applying to any of the top school because i am not that confident! haha. And I am also trying to get into enzyme related research, well at least that is the research interest i stated in my SOP
