  1. Wait, whaynes2, you did a Boren scholarship? I applied to Boren and Fulbright ETA this year. Haven't heard anything back, but if somehow a miracle happens and I get both, I have been weighing which one might be better. Thoughts?
  2. I think it's the Public Affairs division of the local Embassy. That's who interviewed me, at least, because I don't think Tajikistan has a Fulbright Commission.
  3. Oh that sucks. Though I believe they did the same thing with Russia last year, sending all the Russian applicants somewhere else. It didn't affect their awards.
  4. Yay go India!! Happy to see the first results coming in from the South and Central Asia region.
  5. I feel like it's difficult because in the past Central Asia tends to notify later (late April), but from what I heard from my interviewer, the process seems like it's moving faster this year. So, basically half expecting to hear any day, but also half expecting to not hear until like April 29.
  6. Woooooo! Acceptance season has begun! Congrats!
  7. Tajikistan applicant here! In the past, notifications have happened late April, but I had my interview a few weeks back and the person said they'd be sending their rankings to DC the next week. So, I think it is now just a matter of State Department approving the selected candidates now. How long can that take? Hopefully not another 8 weeks!
  8. bg13 and Ivan Bezdomni, just wanted to let you guys know I will officially be attending UNC next fall. PM if you want to get in touch, can't wait to meet my future cohort! Also, let me know if you know of any female graduate students looking for housing, as I need to find a roommate.
  9. Ivan Bezdomnii and bg13, I am seriously considering UNC's MA program. Can you tell me what tipped the balance for you in UNC's favor, because I'm feeling pretty indecisive right now. Thanks!
  10. Welcome zilya! Congrats on Stanford! I was also waitlisted at Harvard REECA, but I'm still kind of holding out for them. Received FLAS Fellowships at Duke and UNC Chapel Hill that I'm considering. I'm also still waiting to hear from Columbia Harriman Institute (come on, Columbia!). So, I am far from decided! What was your experience with the Harvard waitlist? I'm hoping to hear something more concrete from them this week as to whether there may be any open spots.
  11. I was recently accepted to UNC's MA RUES program. I am seriously considering it, and will be visiting in the next couple of weeks. IvanBezdomnii, do you have any more thoughts about the program? I'm curious, since I don't know a lot about it. Hoping to learn more when I visit!
  12. I am also slightly worried about how small the department is. I really like the language offerings, especially the variety of advanced Russian courses. I also love that they include Turkey as part of the Slavic and Eurasian Studies field- most other programs don't, and I'm interested in learning Turkish. My primary concern is that this program doesn't seem to provide pre-professional training/opportunities, but seems mostly focused on the academic (read PhD) track. But that's just the sense that I'm getting.
  13. No idea. First I have to send in a form that says I accept a spot on the waitlist. Spicyartichoke- are you the other Duke acceptance? I'm curious what you think about the program...
  14. In at Duke and waitlisted at Harvard! It's been a big day. )) Anyone planning on turning down Harvard? (though I can't imagine why).
  15. Of all the programs I applied to, I could not find any acceptance/admissions statistics for Columbia's M.A. program. It's like a wild card that will be revealed in April!
  16. It's twice as bad now that it's President's Day weekend (although I am glad to have the day off). spicyartichoke, which program at Columbia did you apply for? I applied for the MA in Regional Studies at the Harriman Institute. Sounds like they notify in April!
  17. bg13- Congrats on your acceptance! I think it's really a great program. I also applied to UNC, but I still haven't heard back from them. May I ask when you applied? I sent my application in late January, so I was wondering if that's why I haven't heard back yet. Also, welcome to the waiting game here, SpicyArtichoke. I have to say, I don't know much about the Ohio State program...
  18. Two of my schools notified this week last year. I am expecting news imminently! It's wearing...
  19. The waiting is just starting to get to me. Now that I know that I may hear back as early as next week, I'm getting antsy. In other news, I am just starting to read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Solzhetsyn. Anybody reading any good Russian literature these days?
  20. Wow! Exciting! Is this for a Phd program?
  21. As of right now, if I don't get in anywhere, my back up is teaching English in the Kyrgyz Republic... It's a bit of a crazy idea, but I'm in a crazy state!
  22. Looking at current graduates enrolled at the universities I applied to only makes me crazier. It seems like ALL of them have already done fulbrights!
