I haven't heard from any schools yet. I have started making plans based on not being accepted anywhere and i'm actually excited about the plans! I'm finishing my third masters and already have half a PhD (long story), so I've had a good run and maybe it's time I move on and stop trying to catch that elusive PhD.....

I agree. Go quant and minor in clinical. Quant is more theoretical and, therefore, preferred for professors/researchers.

Find a journal article of research that you're interested in. they usually say something about suggested future experiments to expand on their work. That's a good starting place. Build on the work that's already out there!

I believe that people on the wait list were not invited to interview. They've sent out some rejections, too, so perhaps you're on the waitlist.

So odd, I have heard nothing from NYU or Princeton and when I called and emailed, each time they told me that I had to wait for an official letter - they wouldn't tell me my status via unofficial email or over the phone. I know that NYU had their interview weekend, but I have a MSW from NYU with a 3.9 GPA, I'm going to be so annoyed if I wasn't even waitlisted!

The two I'm worried about are Princeton Cognitive Psych and NYU Cognition and Perception (Psychology). Any news would be great.

I applied to cognitive psych I've seen some people get interview offers, so I don't know what my lack of an interview means. It could mean that I'm a top candidate, a wait-list candidate or completely rejected! All this waiting is getting to me. LOL.

Has anyone taken Continuing Education classes at Princeton? Can you take graduate level classes in the Psychology Department? What was your experience like? Did you apply to the graduate school afterwards? Thanks!

School: Princeton Program: Cognitive Psychology Rationalization: Interview invitations went out three weeks ago and I didn't get one so I'm assuming the worst. Word: sob! There goes my dream of writing on the glass windows with an oil pen (like in "A Beautiful Mind")!

I have a MSW from NYU. I can answer questions about the school in general or about the Silver School of Social Work in particular.

I am completing my third masters degree (MSEd, MSW, MA (psych)). I also have half a doctorate (I had to leave for medical reasons) and I have reapplied to doctoral programs. I can assure you that a MA is not a guarantee in to a doctoral program. Research and publications are much more important. Your GRE scores look good, but your GPA could use improvement. I would suggest a MA program to you so that you have the chance to improve your GPA, get more research experience and publish and present at conferences. Then you would have a much better chance to get into the doctoral program of your choice. They want someone who has a proven track record of success in the field. I know many people who went straight from a BA to a PHD and I often recommend it. However, if you think that you're not ready for the PhD, , you should do the MA at the same school where you would like to do your phd. That way most of your credits will transfer and you will have a quicker route to the phd. You will also connect with the faculty and be able to do research in that field that both you and they find interesting. You don't need a MA to get into a phd program, but if you are lacking in some area (no research, low gpa, no publications), then it can definitely help!

I've checked and nothing posted yet. Although Ive heard through the grapevine that some interviews were set up. Don't know what to think. I'm biting my nails on this one!

Has anyone heard back from Princeton Cognitive or NYU C&P? Did you get an invitation to interview? I'd love to hear about it! Also, have you all directly contacted POI before sending your application? I didn't do that and now I'm getting worried.

Has anyone been accepted to psych doctoral programs without an interview? I haven't heard from any of the schools and I have no idea if that's a good or bad thing!

My husband is British and has a UK degree and he had no problem getting a job as a professor here in NYC. I also have had several professors who have been from the UK. Unlike many other countries, UK degrees are widely accepted here, just like Canadian degrees. I will say that getting any sort of adjunct lecturer or professorship can depend on many other factors such as teaching experience, how prestigious your phd granting university is, and how published you are. But don't worry about having the UK degree, it shouldn't make much of a difference. The hard part is getting the visa and/or green card! Feel free to message me with questions! Good luck!

Has anyone heard back about Cognitive Psychology doctoral programs? I saw a couple of people heard back, but not many. I'm specifically wondering about Princeton and NYU. I saw that some people were invited to interview? Does that mean that others have received rejections/acceptance?

"Are you trying to avoid the real world?" (because academia is sooooo easy, right?! grrr!) "Do you really need ANOTHER degree?". (it's not about the number of degrees! it's about doing what you love!) I also hate "you're so smart, I'm sure you'll get in". Maybe I missed it, but nowhere on the applications did it ask for my IQ. and "You're very qualified, of course they'll want you". Guess what, no publications (yet) means my application is at the bottom of the pile.
