The deadline for scholarship eligibility was December 15th - the deadline for other applications varied - but MPA/MPP is July 1st, 2013: http://www.usc.edu/schools/price/admission/deadlines_schedule.html Let the mail come! - looking at the USC MPA results database it will be mail and not email. Mail times may vary.

I applied to USC too and yeah pretty much everyone is hoping for funding. I would say it depends - if you're already well-positioned for career advancement then it probably doesn't really matter too much. However, if you're on the outside looking in it can be a positive since the networking opportunities are more likely to be there. Being in Sacramento is obviously an advantage if you're looking to stay in Sacto or the Bay Area - If you're not aware, I think you can complete an MPP program for USC entirely at their Sacramento satellite campus.

I have a History BA too. You're probably aware of this already, but the job market for History PhD's is the pits. I would go for the Japanese Studies type MA because then at least you've got something really marketable if you decide you don't want to go for a History PhD. What would you do with a Classics MA if you decided that you didn't want to go for a History PhD?
