msim Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Anyone accepted to the MPP program at Trachtenberg and planning on enrolling? I got in, but it looks like I won't be getting any funding and I'm having a difficult time deciding if it will be worth the cost.
ExponentialDecay Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 An unfunded MPP at GW seems bizarre to me. If it costs the same as SAIS, why aren't you going to SAIS?

My friend who goes to GWU law says it's very easy to negotiate funding there!

You might want to call the admissions office and inform them of your interest in the program, and let them know you will have a hard time attending without some kind of financial support. If funding is no dice, kindly decline and find out what more you can do to make you competitive enough to obtain funding next cycle. These degrees don't yield much in the way of compensation, and it doesn't do any good to become destitute in order to obtain one.

I guess I'll try to contact them and hope for the best. I've also been accepted to UT's LBJ school and am still being considered for fellowships. If I receive a fellowship there, do you think it would be worth trying to leverage this offer to get more funding from GW?

I had a friend who once called admissions and said, "American offered me this, but I'd rather go to you, how do we make this work?" (in more words). They gave him an extra $10k

I might have to employ this tactic once I get a decision.
Marius G Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 I got an email notifying me that I was nominated for admission and they said that I will receive notice of funding during this week. Did you guys already know if you received or not funding?

The official acceptance letter said I was not chosen for a fellowship, which is the primary source of funding.
