miss_liza_ann Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 HI everyone, I sent one of my professors a copy of my letter of intent. She emailed me back and told me to include all of my experienced summarized in it. I used an approach where I picked some of my experiences from undergrad (student leadership, volunteering) and working as an aide in a special education day class. I wrote about those experiences, what I learned, and how it would help me succeed in graduate school and as an SLP. I did this because I've read to not summarize your resume in a letter. I'm sort of confused now. My resume/all of my experience is roughly 3 pages long by the way. I can send my letter of intent in a private message if anyone wants to and give me some feedback. Thank you
Jordyn_M463 Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 I was also told not to summarize the resume in the letter. Highlight the biggest things and why those experiences will make you a good SLP and most importantly, a good graduate student at that specific institution. I wrote a generic letter that was my template for all schools and then I wrote a personalized paragraph or 2 (5-12 sentences) that talked specifically about the program and their professors and alumni and what that program has achieved. My advisor told me schools like to see that you know at least something about their program and the people in it and why you want to go there. But in all honesty, I would not put every single experience in your letter if that is something they can see on your resume.

Thank you Maybe she feels you left out experience that would be relevant to the field? You can always politely ask her to clarify explaining what she means. Most personal essays have word limits so you don't want to include TOO much.
