Hey everyone!

So here's the thing: I've been in contact with the POI from one of my top choices for the past three weeks or so. She said she was really interested in working with me, we really clicked when we talked on Skype, and she even told me that she would do her best to get me in but of course that didn't depend completely on her. A couple of days after we talked she let me know that  there was a good possibility that I may be on the wait-list because of funding constraints and department politics, but that I should also contact one of her students who was doing fieldwork  close to where I live (this was towards the end of January).

This week I saw on the results page that someone had been informed by their POI that they had been accepted to that school and that official results would come out some time this week.  I've been wondering what I should do with that information. Wouldn't my POI have emailed me when they made the decisions regardless of what it would be? Should I email her to see what's up or should I wait until I get an official decision? Should I just assume I am definitely going to be on the waitlist? I was also accepted to another program which is also pretty good but I think my heart's set on the one where I am probably going to be waitlisted so I want to know if it is worth it to stay on the waitlist when I have another amazing offer. What should I do?

I know this is kind of a stupid question but I would appreciate any advice anyone can give.

Wait.  Be patient.  Nothing you say or do will change the result.  Bite your lip and wait.

I am currently in the same boat. It’s terrible to sit and wait, especially when it seems like everything went your way! I literally have almost the same story. I hope you hear really positive news, and soon!

I have exactly the same situation. I was emailing back and forth with the program director before submitting the application and he told I have good chances to be invited for interview. Unfortunately, I am waitlisted instead and the program has already started to send admissions offers. When I followed up the program director, he still says I have good chances to get off the waitlist, which is very unlikely.

I think all POIs and program directors just write those encouraging emails, however do not mean anything by it. So frustrating :(
