Hey everyone!

Big congratulations on all those who have gotten accepted thus far! For those who are still waiting for responses, wishing you the best of luck!

I recently was admitted to the University of Maine's SLP program. I was hoping to find some current or recent students to get some information about the program/town in general. I feel like I don't know much about UMaine's program or the town of Orono, so any information would be super helpful.

Feel free to message me as well. Thank you!!

I'm curious about Maine but I think it's a little more expensive for out-of-staters right?? I saw something about the state really needing workers (because people are either leaving or dying) so it would be really awesome if they set up something for people to go to school there if they signed a contract to work within the state for so many years after or something. xD

There is currently legislation going through the state congress addressing that fact.

Yes I think it is more expensive for out-of-staters. I'm Canadian and I saw that their tuition is cheaper for Canadians than for out-of-staters, which is interesting.

Oh wow, really?? I won't be starting applications until the end of next year at the earliest because of life circumstances (I'm living abroad) so I hope things change!

Hi everyone!

I am a current CSD student at UMaine and will be coming back in the Fall to start my masters! I have been here since my freshman year and love it. I am from Boston, so moving to Orono I was a bit nervous however I fell in love with the town. Its definitely a "college town" with plenty of bars and restaurants, but its also quiet which is nice. There is a lot of options for living here.. apartment complexes are super nice/ affordable and provide the option for your own room and bathroom. There are also plenty of houses to rent around campus hat are cheap, but still really nice If you live in the Orono/old town area our commute to campus is less than 5 minutes. A lot of people bike (lots of bike trails) or walk when its nice out. The campus is great. I have spent a lot of time in the on campus clinic and have nothing but good things to say. I am also close with faculty and all are amazing, approachable, and seriously care about their students (one of the many reasons I decided to come back for my masters). Please feel free to reach out with any questions!

If you are from a New England state you qualify for New England Regional Tuition with the SLP Master program. This reduces tuition to in-state cost. One of the reasons I will be completing my masters here :)

Unfortunately I'm from PA so not close enough! I did however see they offer some scholarships to people from other states, including PA.

Congratulations on your acceptance! I was accepted at UMaine too and am also wondering what Orono is like. I am a Canadian Student from the Maritimes so I'm hoping living in Maine will be similar to home.

Hi!

I will also be starting my masters at UMaine this fall, so we will be classmates! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind me e-mailing you as well to pick your brain about the program, living in Orono, and campus life etc.? I would love to get input from someone who really knows the area.

Hey! I have received an offer from Maine which I plan on accepting! I am from Canada and never been to Maine, so your info is super helpful!  I was wondering in regard to the apartments are there any that you would advise steering clear from?  I wasn't sure if there are some with just bad reputations or known for housing younger undergrad students or something?

also not sure if you or someone else knows, but I am wondering about the general layout of program classes? Like I assume it generally works out to be 6 semesters long similar to other schools? do the clinical placements happen in the summer months? If anyone has seen this kinda info online and could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!!

Hi there!

I'm currently considering applying from Canada to go to UMaine for their SLP program. If anyone who has been accepted doesn't mind, I would love to hear about your experience with the application process/your stats getting in/etc.! I'm a little nervous but would LOVE the chance to study SLP here.
