Do schools really revoke acceptances?

Hello! I was accepted to grad school for fall 2019 admission in a communication and sciences disorders program. I’m coming from out of field (degree is in psychology) and have been taking leveling courses this past fall and current spring. I did extremely well in my leveling courses in the fall, however this semester I have not been doing great. I will likely end up with 3 C’s and 2 B-’s in COMD courses, so NOT GOOD. Has anyone heard of schools rescinding admission? I know this happens but am wondering if those are for more serious cases, like failures? On my acceptance letter, it says that if I am currently taking classes and my GPA becomes lower than the GPA on file, they have the right to revoke my acceptance. I have a low GPA to begin with (it was a miracle I got accepted anywhere). I will be taking more leveling courses throughout the summer and am planning on doing super well on those to bring everything back up. I'm just scared at the possibility of having my acceptance revoked!!!

I think most schools have their own policies about this but I’ll go based off what I know. 

I was accepted for fall 2019 but I need to take a few prerequisites this summer. For my school in particular I need to get Bs or better or essentially a 3.0 in order to continue into the grad program. If I fail to meet this then I will no longer have a spot for the fall semester. So yes, they can rescind admission. 

I believe as a general rule-although I could be wrong-that most schools don’t allow you to get a C in more than one course and even if you did you have to retake it. This might be different for leveling programs but I would double check with your program. Your GPA can still be higher than what they have on file but if you fall below certain standards they might revoke your admission. 

Sorry I know this isn’t exactly the best of news and I’m only going off what I know but I hope it provided some insight and gave you some more information!

Oh gosh. My school never explicitly said that I need to have certain grades or a minimum. But maybe that's something that is implied? I'm now wondering if I should go ahead and e-mail/call the program to let them know that my grades from this semester aren't great, or just send them the grades through my transcript and wait it out to see if they say anything. Or wait to see if they even ask for them, which they probably will.

Hi! Wanted to post on here because I'm just going through the same thing right now. I got accepted to grad school for the fall semester with a 3.85 GPA and A's in the CD courses. However, this last semester I have the possibility of receiving a C in a 4 unit elective course, so it's not a cd class but I'm still very worried that this will jeopardize my acceptance when I have to send in the final transcript of grades. I hope that they'll see that I've done well in the cd classes and this was just one course not pertaining to the major but I'm still super nervous.

I get why you’re nervous (this is such a crazy process!) but I really don’t think you need to stress about getting a C on a non-CSD. You got this!
