absolutelynott Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 I've seen a lot of posts here asking for advice regarding interviews, but the advice I've seen given seems to mostly be focused on the interview with your POI, and I think I've got a good idea of what that interview is going to look like. What I'm looking for is some advice about the interviews you (sometimes) do with other professors/department members at the university. I received an interview invite today that said I would be interviewed by 3 different committees before the interview with my POI, and I'm nervous as hell! I do TERRIBLY in these formal interview settings, so any advice on what to expect would be much appreciated! What types of "generic" questions should I expect from these other people? What kinds of answers are they looking for?
PokePsych Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Are you sure they are formal. I was in a similar situation last year. 2 out of 3 just turned out to be chatting with on prof going on about this lengthy story about one of his trips. PianoPsych 1
hopefulgrad2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I would be prepared with a lot of questions for THEM. My best advice would be to never run out of questions to ask. In person interviews are about you evaluating their program, too. A question I got from a faculty who isn’t my PI was the basic “if you have unlimited funding and IRB approval, what experiment would you design?” Most of my other interviews were more me interviewing them by asking questions. This is fairly common. (this is from last cycle as I’m a current clinical psych 1st year PhD student) absolutelynott and PianoPsych 2
