Alligator97 Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 Hi everyone! I’m a lab manager for a dev psych lab and I’m trying to make some major decisions about where to live for the rest of the year. Pre-covid, I was living near the university I work for, but then I moved back in with my family several states away since I was working from home. Living with my family has become pretty claustrophobic for me. I really would like to sublet a place somewhere else. However, I don’t have a support system near my university and will be very lonely. I only want to go back if we are resuming in person testing, which could happen if museums and daycares allow us back. But it’s all just a huge unknown. I’m nervous to get a sublease somewhere close to home only to be summoned back to my university. Then I’d be strapped with two rents, eek! I’m curious what you guys think. Do you think in person testing with kids will be a thing at all this year?
higaisha Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 Its worth asking your PI what their plans are for data collection, and their predictions on when it might resume. They only know as much as they've been told by higher admin, so estimates may be variable, but nothing wrong with asking.
Mickey26 Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 I know for us (Canada, Atlantic provinces), in-person testing at the university won't resume until classes are back in-person. We were hoping that would be the case for Jan 2021, but looks like our uni is planning on having online classes, thus, in-person testing will not be resumed. Might be idiosyncratic to the universities though, so worth asking your PI Good luck!
