AbbyHayes Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 HI ALL, JUST WANT TO ASK A SMALL QUESTION- HOW BAD IS IT TO EXCEED THE WORD LIMIT BY 80-100 WORDS? WOULD THEY JUST REJECT THE SOP? THIS IS SPECIFICALLY FOR CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY SOP'S. SOME DEPARTMENTS ALSO HAVE PERSONAL STATEMENTS SO IS IT POSSIBLE TO TALK ABOUT YOUR PRIOR RESEARCH EXPERIENCE THERE AND MAKE THE SOP JUST ABOUT YOUR PROPOSED WORK AND WHY U WANT TO APPLY TO SAID SCHOOL?
Crucial BBQ Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 What is the word limit? I don't think that going over by 100 words is that big of a deal and not a reason to 'reject' an SOP. Your SOP should be dedicated to prior research, what you want out of grad school, and future plans, briefly. That is your purpose, your intent. A personal statement is just that, it is about you, how you came to like research, and so on. If you are being asked to submit both then there is likely to be some overlap between the two.
