Question

Hi guys!

I received my last rejection letter this morning. 4/5 schools that I applied to rejected me, so I don’t really have any other options here. ( I am actually quite happy with going to the school that accepted me )

My question is: Is it a bad idea to accept the admission offer before receiving my financial award package?

I would wait for the financial package to come out before accepting. This season I was burned by one school. They accepted me and led me to believe they would fund me. I was planning to accept, but after a month of waiting, they finally revealed they weren't going to fund me. Luckily, I have another option, that overall is a better fit, but had I accepted prematurely, I would have been more devastated.

Makes sense! I was assured multiple times that funding and admission are completely separate matters. The school I got accepted to said over 90% of their grad students receive some sort of financial award. Since my family is willing to support my grad school costs, I kinda want to just accept the offer and have a peace of mind on this whole grad school thing.

Sorry to hear about that! But congrats on the other school!

You might feel impatient, but you lose absolutely nothing by waiting to get the funding offer. If you accept before getting the funding offer, you lose any chance of negotiating for more money. Of course, in any case it is more difficult to negotiate without a competing offer, but in any case I don't think accepting before getting the formal funding offer is a good idea. You want to have a clear idea of what your costs will be over the next few years of your program. I'm sure that offer will come through soon enough. Good luck!
