I'm A-L, and I have not heard anything either. Did you apply for a "second choice" / MA? I'm thinking that's why I have not heard yet.

oh that must be it - I did apply for the second choice MA. Which one did you select?

Gosh, when are we going to hear from them then? another month to go?

I wouldn't be surprised if we heard the week of the 21st at this point. I guess they don't technically owe us a response until then, but jeez.

My subfield is Arts of Africa. Without thinking, I just applied with the same material for the MA in Art History. Good luck!

Thank you! Does this, however, mean that we have definitely been unsuccessful with the PhD? also, are we bascially on equal standing with all the MA applicants?

Of course I made the poor choice of applying to the most competitive MA - curatorial and criticism.... This waiting needs to be over soon! good luck to you as well, and please do let me know if you hear anything!

I saw two Boston postings on the board... anyone else heard from them? and if you don't mind could people share the focus area and stats? thx =)

I'm still waiting to hear from BU, as well. Looking at last year's results, it looks like they sent out a first round of rejections, with more to follow, and then perhaps the acceptances. Here's hoping it doesn't take until April to see acceptances this year :P

I heard from POI we should hear within the week if we were accepted and that they are determining funding this week. Did anyone apply only to the MA??

Is it just me or has it been a creepily quiet Friday...blink.gif

Right??? I agree!!! I started to feel it last night. Maybe it's the pre-spring break silence? I'm not expecting to hear back from any of my stragglers next week...

Congrats to all the admits from last week. Any Yale admits lurking? I saw not one acceptance on the results page. Don't be afraid; you won't cause a rebellion!!!

Thanks! That's good news, although I'll be unbearably twitchy for the next week or so.

I only applied to the Master's. Isn't it required to apply for the Ph.D?

Well, you can apply to the PhD track sans MA but still have to qualify for it once you reach that point. I met with Ribner yesterday and it's looking hopeful...

I know a lot of y'all are waiting on UDel and there hasn't been a lot of info on the results board, which is making it worse. I just wanted to let you know that I received an unsolicited email from my POI regarding my application in mid-Feb with a request for a phone interview. My adviser also received a phone call and apparently UDel has been asking around my dept about me. I haven't been accepted, so I am assuming I am on some sort of waitlist. My field of interest is Italian Baroque.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems that with UDel, no news is bad news. (And for me, some news is bad news.) It appears UDel isn't one of those schools that accepts without notifying ahead of time. Please don't hate me!

Did someone just post on the results page that there were 250 applicants for Renaissance/Baroque?! That sounds like a lot. I mean, if there were 250 for that specialization... how many were there total? Someone else here quoted a total amount for UPenn at 190. That seems reasonable... Wow!

I call BS. Michael Cole might have said it, but I don't believe that many people would have applied for Ren/Baroque. UPenn had 190 apps and I honestly don't think Columbia would have had significantly more, let alone SIXTY more in just one sub-field than Penn had altogether. That seems preposterous. There are probably about 300 of us applying to grad school in art history in any given year.

I am in Ren/Baroque. I go to one of the biggest grad art history programs in the country with TWO strong Ren/Baroque faculty members (one with an enodowed chair) and we only have about 8 people out of 60+ grad students in the subfield. Moreover, I had a friend in late-Medieval, early Ren Italian, who is very smart, but is not some spectacular candidate--he is on the high end of average when it comes to strong apps. He got his MA from a nameless program. And he got into 5 schools with full funding. If every major PhD granting institution had 1-2 spots for Ren people, then I might estimate there are 50 spots nationwide. Probably more like 30. If over 300 people were applying for them (there are more than 250, since some people don't apply to Columbia, like me), it isn't likely he would have gotten in everywhere.

Also, that means only 10% of Ren people get accepted anywhere at all. That seems ridiculously low. That also indicates there is a lot of chaff. Although Ren tends to be the crowd-pleaser at the undergrad level, it requires a lot of languages and study abroad. Therefore, it doesn't seem to get that much attention at the grad level.

I have a feeling that Michael Cole thinks highly of highly of himself and his new arrival at Columbia and is tooting his own horn.

Don't believe everything you hear.

So, you're in an MA program? Are you on a PhD track that you are unhappy with or completing a terminal MA?

A little bit of both. My MA is technically terminal, but my adviser wants me to stay for the PhD. However, I don't like the program and I have no one to advise my dissertation. There are about a half doz progs that have someone in Italian Baroque--Columbia, Rutgers, Maryland, Minnesota, Delaware, Toronto, maybe a few others.

Anyone else waiting from UVA or UNC? They are my last hopes, based on the assumption that no word from Michigan or Harvard = rejection!

I am waiting on UNC. From the results page, it seems as if they notify a bit late in the game, but still, not enjoying the wait. I applied for the MA.

Has anyone heard from Rochester yet? I applied to the Visual Culture program and have yet to receive any updates (positive or negative).

Yes, I was accepted by mail a few days ago. I know that some rejections also went out (see results page) so I'm guessing you're waitlisted? Good news is, I will be declining the offer, so don't lose hope!

I'm waiting on UVA for Classical Art and Archaeology. I do know that they sent out the majority of their rejections at the end of February, and that their admitted students' weekend is at the end of March, so decisions regarding admits and waitlists should be coming out very soon.

Anyone heard from Tufts besides the one posted on the boards? Or Seattle?

I was the one who posted on the board for Tufts. I only got info over the phone, so a letter should be forthcoming. Hopefully you'll get good news soon! The director of graduate studies said they usually have about 10 people to a class. Do you know much about the department? It seems like it's not as well known but I think it's a pretty good fit for me.

I too am waiting on UW. I'm surprised the results board shows that someone was contacted on a Sunday??

I heard from UW today. My POI called me earlier this afternoon. I was definitely caught off guard but really glad to hear the news.

I'm sure the other admits will hear sometime this week. I think she said they figured it all out Friday and that she personally likes to call her students, which is why she contacted me. I believe they are sending out official letters soon.

Congratulations! And thanks for the info.

So, since some schools have spring break this week, will this be a quiet week? I don't know if I can take 7 more days of silence... Just tell me I've been rejected, already!!!!
