MPP/MPA 2011 Applicants

Recommended Posts

Woah! I just checked my application status online for USC and it said this:

You will receive notification of your admission decision soon via postal mail. Please note that the Office of Admissions provides final decision notifications by letter only. We do not disclose admission decisions via e-mail, telephone, or any other means.

Do you think they decided not to email the rejects??? I am so worried now. Ugggghhh.

Also got into UMN MPP program today, so stoked!! First acceptance...so glad I know I have somewhere to be in the fall!

I checked my USC online account and it didn't say the same thing as the post above me quotes, but I also applied to the MPA program so it might be different.

I don't know if this will put anyone else at ease but I got my acceptance email from USC but my online account hasn't updated at all, so I wouldn't put much stock in what it says there.

Hey All-

I heard back from USC SPPD as well. I was admitted to the MPA. I was notified via postal service and the notification was from graduate admissions not SPPD. I hope that helps someone.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!

I received my admissions packet from USC for the MPA as well on 2/24. Same details as ero89 and no info on funding...congrats on the acceptance.

Dear Friends

Congrats to all those who have got acceptence from their dream colleges..I hope good news will keep flowing..

Just a little query. how does a college measure language proficiency of the applicant. I mean we mention our level of proficiency basic / intermediate but what if the language was learned from a tutor and a university certificate is not available.

Do we have to submit a certificate after the admission along with our transcripts.

thank you

Got admit from American University SPA. I feel good.

If it is a program that requires a certain level of language proficiency then they will probably have you take a written or oral placement exam to see what level you are at.

Just got an email acceptance to the MPA at IU-Bloomington! I know I was in the second round of reviews in early February. Funding notification to come in mid-March. Kinda funny, it's the last school I applied to and the first one I've heard back from. Go Hoosiers!

Congratulations! I am in the same batch of early Feb applicants, but I am still waiting eagerly to hear back!

Hi Guys,

My first post! I believe I have started late for this particular blog

I have a reject from LSE-MSc in Management, Organisations and Governance. Got through Erasmus Mundus Masters in Public Policy(without funding). I am still awaiting results from

NUS-Economics, LKYSPP, Singapore-Public Policy, IPS-John Hopkins and Uof Maryland.

Am confused what to do? :-( Erasmus Mundus is a prestigious programme and an opportunity to study at ISS Hague, Netherlands. However I'm unable to decide since I am still to hear from other universities.

Any comments??

Accepted to USC today for the MPP (by snail mail) with a Dean's Merit Scholarship for a full ride!!! It's the first school I've heard from. Sooo relieved. I got two separate letters. One with the acceptance and the other one described the scholarship and its conditions. Never received any sort of email from them, just the postal response. Good luck to everyone!!

Thanx SN! I had made peace with waiting till March 15th so getting that email yesterday blew my mind ... but now all I think about is finances ..

Trying to understand their financial aid process, do you know if they have a financial aid application ?

Congratulations hattaba!

I was wondering about the named fellowships too - I guess we'll hear from them soon enough.

Program Applied To MPP

Schools Applied To: UC Berkeley, USC SPPD, UCLA

Schools Admitted To: SPPD (with half tuition scholarship!! blew my mind)

Schools Rejected From: none yet

Still Waiting: UCLA, UC Berkeley

Undergraduate institution: Top 10 liberal arts

Undergraduate GPA: 3.74

Last 60 hours of Undergraduate GPA (if applicable): 3.8

Undergraduate Major: Public Policy Analysis/Politics

GRE Quantitative Score: 630 (52nd percentile)

GRE Verbal Score: 700 (97% percentile) disproportionate, I know...

GRE AW Score: 5

Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 0

Years of Work Experience: Internship experience every semester of undergrad.

Describe Relevant Work Experience: I've been working with an elected member of the LAUSD school board for the past 6 months and have experience in tutoring and fundraising.

Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): My SOP for Berkeley was a piece of s*** because I had to turn it in first and of course waited until the last minute. The other two were more polished and were looked over by a career advisor at my school's career development office.

Strength of LOR (be honest, describe the process, etc): One was very good, specific and written by a professor who loves me. One was very good but written by a professor that does not have his shit together. Third was written by my internship supervisor who does not know me that well but hopefully was able to think of concrete examples of the work I did for the office.

Other: I'm not very good at math (very rusty after having taken only one class since junior year of high school.) I'm hoping my low GRE score in math will be made up for by my solid A average in my econ and stats classes.
