Strangefox Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Hi, I want to take GRE on 9th November. I want to know if still there are unscored section in computer-based GRE. If yes, is it easily distinguishable from the real one? thanks It depends totally on your luck. Sometimes it is clearly distinguishable: in the beginning of this section you will see the notification on the screen, that is how you will know that it is unscored. But sometimes test takers do not see any notifications, they just have to do an additional section because there is no way to know if it is scored or not.

But sometimes test takers do not see any notifications, they just have to do an additional section because there is no way to know if it is scored or not. And yet they call this a "standardized test"... It was distinguishable for me and the other two people I went with when I took it in October. Hopefully, its identified when I retake..
adaptations Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 When I took the test is was clearly marked, and I just skipped the entire section. As has already been said, not everybody is so lucky and sometimes you have to take the experimental section because it is not identified as such.
nigar Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 I have just finished GRE exam. I was lucky because it was clearly marked the unscored section.
history_PhD Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Both times I have taken it, the unscored sections have been marked.
hotmessexpress Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Wait, you have the option of not working on it as long as it's identified as the unscored section? I'm testing in 2 weeks. If it's a verbal section, I won't mind too much but if it's a quant section and I can possibly get out of it, I sooo will!

If it's a verbal section, I won't mind too much but if it's a quant section and I can possibly get out of it, I sooo will! In my case, that is correct. The experimental section was clearly marked and was the final section. I had the option to skip the section and then was done.
BrandNewName Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Of everyone I know who has taken the test in the past two years, I have yet to hear first-hand of anyone getting an unmarked section. Is there any chance they've changed their procedures and now always clearly label it?
