highhopes22 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Chicago funds all of their PhD students with a standard package, unless things have changed dramatically from previous years. ooh really? if that's true thank god but i really can't shake off my paranoia/thinking too much unless i get an official letter arghhhhhhhhh and what's up with harvard/columbia?? i wish they could just reject me fast so that i can just get past it haha
Zarathustra Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Humanprovince- Ive been reading your blog for a very long time. laughed outloud seeing that you're on this as well. Where are you still waiting on and wanting to go? Who else got into Cornell for Comparative? Any idea when their admit weekend is? I don't mean this to be rude, but calm the hell down. You got into a top program that funds its students. You did it. So take a deep breath and realize that it's ALL GOING TO BE OK for you.
Purled Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Also in at Cornell for theory... tough decisions lie ahead. Interesting...I'm curious, and I realize that not everyone is comfortable sharing this info, but where else are you in/where else did you apply/what's your area of interest? Also, incredibly happy about this particular tough decision.
UVaSpades Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Any Virginia admits out there? I want to know what's the word on funding.... is the person here who already got their offer? (saw it on the results list) Wondering if I should send an email asking about funding. Their website says decisions are made mid-march, but someone claimed to already have gotten an offer. I've been anxiously checking the mail everyday since, and nothing... I'm not the person who claimed a funding offer, but I was sent a funding package back on February 18th. It was actually from the Director of Graduate Studies for the program, so if you have any questions about funding, it would seem to me that they could be directed towards him. Chicago funds all of their PhD students with a standard package, unless things have changed dramatically from previous years. Assuming you're admitted straight-up, I believe this is correct. However, I have known at least one person from last year who got in from the wait-list and did not receive a funding offer.
paleostraussian Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Anyone claiming the Notre Dame acceptance up on the results board? Gosh, ND is really trickling out their acceptances and rejections. Awful.
Count de Monet Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Anyone claiming the Notre Dame acceptance up on the results board? Gosh, ND is really trickling out their acceptances and rejections. Awful. It was really weird...I know a couple of people, along with myself, who all got rejections at once a few weeks ago but then everything just sort of stopped...
penndryve Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 In at Brown! Emailed DGS yesterday when I saw entries in the results page and she replied back with the good news!
firefly28 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Well UNC finally lowered the ax, but being that I have three visits coming up at three great campuses, I really don't care. In hindsight, however, I do wish that I would've applied to Texas instead. Just as good of a program and better weather (and no state income tax).
oranje1989 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I just withdrew the acceptance to Minnesota. Hope someone can get what he/she wants! My interest is in AP
action Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Interesting...I'm curious, and I realize that not everyone is comfortable sharing this info, but where else are you in/where else did you apply/what's your area of interest? Also, incredibly happy about this particular tough decision. Thus far I'm also in at UPenn and CUNY, both with full funding -- though I've already declined CUNY's offer. I have been officially rejected from Yale, Chicago, and Northwestern, and suspect I'm also rejected from Columbia and JHU. Broadly stated, I'm interested in contemporary normative political theory with special interest in the tradition of German political philosophy and critical theory. My statement detailed a potential project that would work toward developing a theory of 'post-national' political identity and community.
lasthope Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Tired of waiting...will call all my remaining schools today... Lets all do it! secretly_yes 1
adela_heartless Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I saw another claim on GWU in the results board, offer with full funding. my status is still "under review". don't have the courage to call. so I guess I'll just wait and keep my fingers crossed.

I called. (I call everyone). The lady that answered said she couldn't release the decisions over the phone because she didn't have "that authority." I took her tone to mean that I was not accepted. I can't remember if I even told her my name, but her voice sounded like a no to me.
Polly_Sigh Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I can confirm the GW acceptance and funding. congratulations, adaptations!!! you have many great programs to choose from! i'm hoping for some decent news from them...

secretly_yes Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Let's just hang in there for a while or try to distract ourselves... I am diving my time between worrying, working, playing sudoku and thinking about my law school applications for next year. I don't remember any other application process to anything being this stressful and I have had three different jobs and have attended three different schools. I really know about applying and waiting and freaking out. Nothing beats this process for the waiting and freaking out part.

I really know about applying and waiting and freaking out. Nothing beats this process for the waiting and freaking out part. i have been feeling the same way. i've been through many stressful application processes b/t school and work, but this really tops all. part of me is happy that i found grad cafe because it gives me a broader perspective on the whole process and I feel more informed; however, at times i think it really fuels my anxiety. i'm usually not a proponent of "ignorance is bliss" but i'm wondering if it would've made these past few weeks a lot less agonizing....
adaptations Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) congratulations, adaptations!!! you have many great programs to choose from! i'm hoping for some decent news from them... Thank you. I feel very fortunate this year, especially since my fiance also has had wonderful success (he just got into Stanford this week!). As for the GW communication, it was a very nice email from the DGS notifying me (no mention of checking the website). Edited March 3, 2011 by adaptations

I agree 100%. I am not sure gradcafe has been the best thing for me because it has made me worry so much. I wonder if the other 400+ applicants that are not in gradcafe are more or less stressed out than I am...
