NoleGirl Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Hawaii sent an email to me today; I was put on the alternate list. Hope this helps anyone who applied there!
sleppyb Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Received a rejection email from UNC today (which is pretty expected at this point).
NoleGirl Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 rejection (email telling me to check the status of my admission) from UCLA this morning.
Mr. Tea Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 First day of March seems to be rejection time. Rejection email from Princeton today. Also, wait list email from U Michigan. We'll see what happens there.
lafresca Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Rejected from UCLA. Had a phone interview with POI in December. Not too disappointed though... Rejected from Princeton. Womp womp. Waiting on FSU and UMass. Let's hope for the best! Si no, there's always next year.
sleppyb Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Got a rejection email from U Chicago. In the same email/pdf I was informed that I was accepted into their master's program.
humankoko Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Anyone know what's up with UVA? I know some folks have been rejected, waitlisted, and accepted, anyone care to share how or with who for those of us in limbo? Thanks!
Mr. Tea Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Also received a rejection from U Chicago today. Oh well.
HyacinthMacaw Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Hey folks, I commiserate with you all--I received rejections today as well, and expect more to come. Fingers crossed, does anyone know what's up with Rutgers? My POI said that if Rutgers social psych hires this year, the new hire will get the available TAships, and my POI will have have to wait a year or two. Due to economic crunch, my POI also said the the number of TA lines have dwindled to two per area. So I suspect Rutgers social psych will not accept more than 3 or so people for an incoming class of two students. Ouch, it hurts just writing it!
SupernovaOptical Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 rejected by u of Chicago via email today. it's expected but still....felt like the end of the world =( sigh I'm pretty much screwed now because there are only two schools left on my list and I think 85 percent that both of them are going to reject me..
submarineradio Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Has anyone heard anything from NYU in terms of getting deferred from the PhD to MA program? I didn't get an interview offer so this is the best I'm hoping for! I kind of hoping this happening too, and I've asked several people but heard nothing from them. Does anybody know how NYU would deferred a Ph.D to MA program, is meeting the qualifications enough?
Vitaminark Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Rejected from UCLA. Had a phone interview with POI in December. Not too disappointed though... Rejected from Princeton. Womp womp. Waiting on FSU and UMass. Let's hope for the best! Si no, there's always next year. I hate that you and I are in direct competition with each other!!! I'm waiting on FSU and UMass myself, but wish good things for you friend!
absolute1513 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Got a rejection email from U Chicago. In the same email/pdf I was informed that I was accepted into their master's program. Sorry about the rejection. Can you please tell me about the master's program? I didn't realise they even had one, nothing on their website.
sleppyb Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Sorry about the rejection. Can you please tell me about the master's program? I didn't realise they even had one, nothing on their website. I didn't know about it either until I got the email, so I can't say much about it. It's a one year program and they seem to place students really well into PhD programs/jobs afterwards. Here is the website: http://mapss.uchicago.edu/

I think they would accept more because there are multiple funding options. You can also be on a fellowship or a RA (with money from your PI's grant), so I suspect there would be an incoming class of more than 2 students. They hired at least one new professor, I think.
cerebellumsdayoff Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Got into DePaul University – I made an informal visit last week and was offered a spot that day; received an email from my POI telling me that the admissions committee is about to make final decisions but to consider myself admitted to the program. That was my top choice, and I accepted the offer when I first received it. The nightmare is officially over! Best of success to everyone who is waiting! a.arcane 1
socialpsychg Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Anyone know what's up with UVA? I know some folks have been rejected, waitlisted, and accepted, anyone care to share how or with who for those of us in limbo? Thanks! UVa has admitted 8 people, and all but one visited about three weeks ago. To my knowledge, none of them have made a decision (one way or another) yet. UVa is expecting an incoming class of 3-5. Priority is being given to the new faculty (Sophie Trawalter and Ben Converse).
fd.711 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Rochester's interview weekend was a few weeks ago, and decisions should be going out sometime next week I'm a little confused about my status at Rochester. I got an email from a POI there a few weeks ago (first weekend of Feb) telling me I was one of the students they were considering, but I wasn't invited to interview and I'm pretty sure I got that email after interview invites went out; one student told me she interviewed w/the same prof but received the invitation in January. I haven't heard anything since. Dunno what to make of that...
Benderghast Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Yesterday, I wrote to the program coordinator at the University of Alberta to ask for an update (I haven't heard anything from this program or anyone else who applied). She told me the committee is still in the examination stage. She also indicated that the program processes applications well into April. Is it just me, or is that really, really late? I immediately contacted my POI, and I'm still waiting to hear from him. Just wondering what my fellow applicants think. Thanks!

Canadian programs are often later than American programs, partially because application deadlines are more likely to be Jan-Feb instead of Nov-Dec (like the U.S.). My program just made decisions in the last week or so. They should still hit that April 1 deadline though - "well into April" sounds weird.
guitarjoe Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I was accepted to the Brandeis U. phd program, however, I've put off accepting the offer to wait and hear back from Harvard....probably the only school I applied to that I would take over Brandeis (and that's even questionable, since I got full funding). So, has anyone heard back from Harvard social psych yet?

I applied to Toronto, although I haven't heard anything from them so I'm basically expecting another rejection at this point. Still, any information would be better than none if you go there or happen to know what their status is.

So, has anyone heard back from Harvard social psych yet? I called the graduate coordinator of the psych program at Harvard yesterday. They couldn't give me specific info, but she said all decisions have been made and are in the process of being mailed out. I saw a couple of people post acceptances via email (maybe unofficial ones?) on the results board in late Feb. So, I'm thinking they are sending out rejections. At least you have backup, good luck!

It's hard to keep up with the erratic time frames. A school in Toronto let me know early, so I thought maybe U Alberta was on the same schedule. Oh, well. I guess we'll see what my POI says. PsychAnxious Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Hi guys - once again! I noticed that some people got response from Buffalo via post-mail. Maybe someone knows if the decisions were available on website as well? Thanks!!!
