pepsi Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 hey guys i'm new here, but i quickly realized that most of the CS posters here are phD applicants. since it looks like the MS acceptances don't follow the phD acceptances for a lot of schools, i thought our feeble group of MS applicants should have a thread to talk about our acceptances and what not too =D let's hear the good (and bad) news!
Deadwing Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hello, I am a Fall '11 applicant for MS too. Where all did you apply and what is your profile like? I applied to ucla, ucsd, wisconsin, tamu, austin, stony brook, utah, minnesota and toronto, ubc, sfu in canada. Still havent heard from any university yet, although I have had a few encouraging email exchanges with a couple of profs.
newms Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I've applied for MS to 3 Canadian universities: Alberta, McGill and Waterloo. I also applied to 7 PhD programs in the US. Haven't heard from anywhere yet.

pepsi Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 accepted by umass amherst! relieved for getting into an affordable MS program
Deadwing Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Wow thats a great admit! congrats! I got an MS/PhD fully funded offer from SFU, Canada.
yamamotomiechan Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Congratulation! pepsi! pepsi, does "affordable" mean that you could not get funding? I have applied to most university as a master candidate. But it seems that it is very difficult to get funding for MS applicants. I made a mistake because I do not know if I can get into graduate school without funding. I thought MS applicants can also get funding in many cases.
newms Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 accepted by umass amherst! relieved for getting into an affordable MS program Congrats pepsi! Is this a MS/Phd or a straight MS?

pepsi Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 Congrats pepsi! Is this a MS/Phd or a straight MS? thanks newms! this is for a terminal MS. seems like there hasnt been any phd activity with umass yet

yamamotomiechan Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Hi pepsi. I applied to Ohio State University (MS) Purdue University (MS) North Carolina State University(MS) University of Maryland-College Park(MS) University of Wisconsin-Madison(MS) University of California-San Diego(MS) University of Michigan-Ann Arbor(Ph.D) Princeton University (MS) MIT(Ph.D) I clearly stated that I want to get Ph.D in the future in my Statement Of Purpose, but I think I cannot get any funding. So I am planing to apply for scholarships in my country after getting acceptance.

pgx Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Got an admit from UBC (either MS or PhD, my choice, funded), but still no answer from Toronto ...
drdickdiver Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 i applied to umass, gatech, upenn, brown, columbia, uiuc, northeastern, bu, nyu. got into upenn and northeastern, still waiting on the others Hey. Congrats on your perfect score thus far. I've so far only heard back from UPenn (acceptance, thankfully!). So, are you considering it at all or was it a safety school. Also, since UIUC's started giving out acceptances a week ago, until when do you suppose it's prudent to still feel hopeful.
ac/dc Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) I got an admit for the master program in CS at Brown yesterday. They have mentioned that the expenses should be around $65K! Also, they have not mentioned whether these are total expenses or per year. I can not certainly afford in the latter case I am waiting to hear from UIUC, Purdue, UC Irvine and UMD. A full-time student is someone registered for three or more courses per semester. The cost for part-time students is based on the number of courses taken; the per-course rate is equal to 1/8 of full tuition, or $4,991. thegurubase Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Has anyone heard from Toronto? I applied there quite early. They've never, not even once, updated my status.. I heard it's real tough to get through Toronto. Any MS admits there so far?
