Matilda_Tone
On UofT: My status was updated on the website about three weeks after I got in (but all it says is "decision made"- no way of telling if that is a good or bad decision). So it seems that they don't get around to changing the website until well after the email/snail mail notices go out. As I may have mentioned, the reply date for PhDs is March 25th- so there might be a few more acceptances after that if some spaces open up. Fingers crossed! barricades
It has ended. Almost. All schools have gotten back to me. I have decided to wait until April 1st, and if none of the waitlists reply then I'm making my decision!
barricades
And Cornell letter of rejection was probably the most considerate one I've ever received. Even the signature was real!
Guest
I think Paura's record is impressive beyond impressive this year! Huge congratulations! Thanks! I guess killing myself during the fall and setting my thesis writing back significantly paid off. For those wondering, after agonizing over my decision for some time, I've decided to go to Michigan. I was debating between Harvard, Michigan, and Berkeley, and after careful consideration of the faculty available to me narrowed it down to Berkeley or Michigan, and then I chose based on the specialist who would fit most closely with my research topic. What a relief to be done with the decision process! I just sent out all my notifications and apologies to professors last night. Good luck to all others! dblalock
Just a heads up: The use of the term "Jap," even as an abbreviation, is generally taboo. While not as egregious as "gook" it is still considered an ethnic slur by many (myself included, although I am not Japanese). A more PC abbreviation for Japanese is Jpn. For details: http://www.jref.com/...iview/jap.shtml I love small ironies -- that website is /jap.html. Sorry, I just had to chuckle
StrangeLight
.... that's not ironic. the title of the article it links to is called "japjapjapjapjapjapjap." talking about the pejorative "jap." i... i think that it was intentional. so, um... not ironic.
