maichang Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I see that most of the natural science programs have already started sending out decisions and calling people for interviews. When do the stats programs start sending out decisions?
mandehling Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Should be recently, but I have not heard from any schools, too. jmoney123 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Check the Results sections: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=statistics It looks like just a few schools have started. U of Minn seems to be rejecting and waitlisting people... so maybe you are lucky if you haven't heard from them yet
rhskier029 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) I hope that means we are lucky! I see people have been accepted, rejected, and wait-listed from Minnesota already and I haven't heard anything. Oh well, looks like I will have to wait some more. dragonlong Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Oh god, do you guys know how likely it is to get accepted if you are on a waitlist? It seems that a lot of school really have no money this year, and do get a flood of applicants

maichang Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Congratulations on your admission into CMU! Can I ask whats your undergrad major? Do you have a masters and if yes, whats the major? Have you applied for the Phd of MS program? Any research experience? Is it mandatory? thanks! Hi, I am a graduating senior from a top 25 liberal arts college majoring in Math and economics. My undergrad gpa is 3.8. No, I dont have a masters. I applied to Phd program in Statistics.. I have done reu in applied statistics, last semester i was involved in a research with a professor analyzing data from ecology..currently i'm doing an independent study to develop bayesian time series model to analyze time series data....I have taken few higher level stats courses. and I think my reco were pretty strong... While not mandatory, it is very helpful to have research experience..it gives you an edge and the schools will know that you are well prepared for grad school. good luck.

I got in there too. I was of course really excited but now it's almost worse because it makes me want to hear from the other schools soooo badly. I'm waiting on NCSU, LSU, Iowa State, Florida State, and UCSB. What are your thoughts on VTech, would you go there or do you have your heart set on somewhere else?
