Thank you, Brown, for this immaculate edging. I've acquired 93 new mental illnesses today alone, had one not-mini breakdown, recovered from it, and am still perched on the edge of my seat here. Fantastic work, Brown. Well done! 👍🏾

Try not to make yourself crazy.

100%. First teaching of the Buddha in the Dhammapada is that suffering is made in our own minds. In the long run, distraction only causes suffering; but in the short term, distractions can help balance perspective. I got two tattoos and did like twenty miles of walking meditation just waiting for NYU and Columbia; helped immensely in the short term, and because the distractions weren't unwholesome, helpful in the long run too.

I just got waitlisted at Ole Miss, they very nicely asked me to confirm I was still interested, what other schools I had been accepted and waitlisted at and am still waiting for. I know some people heard yesterday so maybe they haven't finished sending the emails.

Did it come from the same email that notified about round 2?

I still haven't heard so getting a little down :(

Yes, from Melissa Ginsberg. My name is also Melissa so we're having fun with our "Dear Melissa... From Melissa" emails.

That's exactly how I was feeling last night when someone else mentioned getting waitlisted, so maybe it's just taking a bit with all the emails.

It feels so slow today! CSU is on spring break and then the deadline for whoever has the GTA offer will be the week after that (April 1st) and though I'm more calm about it now, I'm still holding on to hope that they'll turn it down and the committee will choose me (33% chance, but I have let them know several times they are my top choice lol) ❤️❤️❤️

Objectively, the stipend at CSU is less pay for more work than NAU and in a more expensive city, so I will be happy with whichever way the dice roll lol

@Mystic_Sunshine I've got my fingers crossed for you! They probably are just taking their sweet time and testing everyone's sanity and patience lol or maybe moving through alphabetically, or maybe a printer caught fire in the English department and it's diverted everyone's attention away from notifying people.

So sorry if this has already been said but does brown send out waitlists before acceptances, and then rejections? waitlists on draft made me assume soft rejection but not sure

this has been covered

they have not sent acceptances

When is it appropriate to follow up with a program about pending funding?

funding at emerson is unlikely but it doesn’t hurt to just send an email now if you haven’t since you got in

Not even full tuition? 😭 I can make do without a stipend. But is there a chance they’d cover tuition?

they cover a small few people’s tuition – i got offered that until i turned it down. i don’t know if they’re still offering anyone full tuition but i sort of doubt it. i think it’s fine at this point to just email and ask if they’re still considering you for funding, but i wouldnt get my hopes up with emerson. don’t be afraid of reapplying next year – that’s what i had to do

Is it a good sign if I received a phone call? Or do they call everyone? I seen past acceptances where people only received notifications that their applications had updated.

I really appreciate your encouragement!

I think I'm down and out for this season but that is okay(not really I've sobbed a lot but it will be okay) It's hard for me because I'm not straight out of undergrad (I've had a career and a masters degree) so it's a little daunting to go through it all over again but I'm glad people like you (and some others) have shared your experience about reapplying.

Welcome to Spring / Late March! Chiming in to say I'm happy with the results of my second application cycle, and incredibly grateful that I took time after the first season to live my life as a person and a writer before applying again. Made all the difference in readiness, focus, and discernment. I would have gotten so, so much less out of an MFA had I been accepted my first round. However much I was disappointed back then, now I'm grateful for those straight rejections.
