Hopefully they award more awards this competition (as promised).

Also hoping they are consistent with their scoring..

What committee did everyone apply to?

Any repeat applicants here, like me?

Last year I applied to Committee 1, my score was recommended for funding but not enough funding to be awarded. This year, I changed the direction of my project and applied to Committee 2. Fingers crossed!

Committee 3. Third time. I came so, so close last time. I just hope it is not a "lottery" as I've heard a few people say.

Committee 3, first-timer to the postdoc cycle.

@bookmouse Thanks for sharing! Did you find it difficult to switch project directions? Did you have to find a new prospective supervisor?

Committee 4. Second time.
Changed my research project quite a bit to “match” closer to what they want from my understanding.

Maybe my memory is off: why did I remember the funding for last year was 45000 each year, and this year is 70000? Can anyone correct me on this please?

End of February. We will see.

Yes the gov increased it in April 2024. The winners in feb this year were lucky and got 70k instead of 45k (per year).

Hello, I have also applied for this cycle. It says that we will know the results on February 2025. Does anyone know the exact date? (February 1st?)

It's my first postdoc app.

Usually around the last 2 days of february, 27 or 28 feb. It is my third and last time applying.

After a year of re-thinking of book project, it was not too much of a stretch changing directions from art history to history. Yes, I did find a new supervisor and university.

This is the only active forum on sshrc - wiki academia used to be, but no more. What committee are you in?

I have so much hope for this grant, trying to lower my expectations 🫠

Hoping the same for you. I know how stressful and nerve-wracking it is. Fingers crossed. 🤞

This is my first application cycle and I also chose committee 3. I’ve only applied to five postdocs this application cycle: SSHRC (Toronto), Pomona, NYU, British Academy (Cambridge), and Edinburgh. Hope things work out for all of us.

If I get the fellowship, but I haven't fully graduated yet, do you know if it is possible to postpone the start date of the fellowship? Can I say for example, I should graduate by July and postpone it again in case I don't have my diploma in July?

Thanks,

Thanks,

You can postpone until December 2025 or January 2026. I am not sure of the exact date but yes you can postpone. Not more than that though.

Yeah, these were the two options given to me when I won the SSHRC doctoral award and was already on an internal fellowship. I asked to defer it to September of next year and was told it was not possible. I ended up deferring SSHRC for one semester, taking up the internal fellowship for only half its term, and then switching to SSHRC in January.

Yes, the limit is probably still January, I dont think they would change this. But they do make some changes from year to year.. this year they asked for more things in the CV (such as funded research) and contribution list (best contributions, relevant exp)

Does anyone know if SSHRC has a waitlist so that if someone who is awarded the postdoc fellowship declines it for whatever reason, it opens up that spot for someone who wasn't initially funded?

Yeah it does. However not a lot of people decline. Offers of alternate awards are made from july to september (they do not specify the exact date or month)

Does anyone know what they mean by "timely completion" of phd? Do they mean 4 years, or like a reasonable timeframe like 4 to 5 years or more depending on the specific thesis?
