anerdformodernism Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Also waiting on Yale as well, the sources (denizens of the internet) have not revealed whether any interviews will be sent out or if they have yet. Real tough cycle this year (shout out emory for waiting to notify people in december smh). Also waiting for Graduate Center CUNY, Harvard, & Princeton, specifically for Art History, but I know it'll be a bit for anything (and I'm truthfully expecting rejections all the way round LOL). Not a lot of schools have folks who deal with German Modernism, so I was def limited in my choices.

I ended up applying to Penn, UCLA, McGill, Toronto, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers. I would have applied to Boston, but they suspended art history admissions again this year 😕 It feels like a bit of an odd list overall, but I was really trying to prioritize research fit....nervous but trying not to freak out haha 999 1

History/Theory of Art, 1960 black figurative modernist and contemporary artists from the Caribbean to the US and the fungibility of the body. I would have applied there, but I didn't have the time to develop my project into a detailed enough dissertation proposal (plus, the funding situation, as you said...). From what I understand, schools that offer both a PhD and a terminal MA usually look at the PhD applications first and then move on to the MA pool, so the timelines can look a bit different. I also saw someone post about an NYU IFA interview—a friend who almost went there last year told me they got an email saying IFA didn’t do interviews, so I was expecting that to be the case again this year. Any chance the original poster could share a bit more information? And if anyone has heard anything from Yale or Columbia, I’d love to know—even if it’s just to confirm whether I’m already out of the running. I’m so ready for this to be over! I’ll definitely post when I hear back from Brown! My POI made it sound like it’s pretty much out of her hands at this point
999 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I just saw that someone posted about a Yale interview—if anyone has any info on shortlists, interview numbers, or any other relevant details, I think a lot of us would really appreciate if you could share anything here (I applied to a joint program, though I’m not sure that makes much of a difference at this point) I heard the department was expecting around 250 applications for 7 places, so huge congrats to anyone who made it this far!

It was with my proposed advisor and a bunch of other faculty, who asked questions I was not really expecting compared to my other interviews.
