PhDHopeful2026 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Anyone heard from Duke or Penn this cycle? I feel like they've been especially quiet and missing from forums (and I'm waiting on them still).

I'm still waiting for them too. As to Penn, I haven't seen anything and also waiting for them --- On a similar note, does anyone know when it is okay to email the programs to check my status? I'm specifically wondering about the ones I assume are rejections, since others heard from them and I haven't. I did get into one program I really want and was invited to their visit days, but since I have a 14-hour flight to the US, I want to plan the trip in advance... And as long as I don't receive official decisions, it's much harder to plan. Edited February 12 by PoliSci2026
eagerkat Posted February 13 Posted February 13 hi team! first time poster, but a solid lurker. i got rejections from Princeton and Stanford today. I have one funded acceptance from CUNY, but am worried I won't get in anywhere else. i have a master's from an Ivy, but i am new to the world of phds. do these two rejections mean i likely won't get into my other schools (Yale, Harvard, Oxford, LSE, etc.)?

heartintheclouds Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Has anyone heard from WashU for IR? I also know some acceptances have gone out for UNC but does anyone have insight on whether all of them have gone out?
jyfgyi Posted February 13 Posted February 13 0A/0W/6R/4P(including 1 silent reject) I'm cooked 🙁 Good Luck to you guys
waitingforpoliscidepts Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Anyone heard from NYU yet? They emailed saying decisions are on a rolling basis this year, but it's been radio silence since then.

I think no rejection from one school is indicative of a rejection to come from other schools in its tier granted that you do not have a fundamental problem with your application like unusually low GPA or test scores, missing required materials etc. So, no need to worry.
PoliSci2026 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Someone wrote in the GradCafe updates that they've heard some people were interviewed for Harvard, Yale, Penn and Cornell. Does anyone know anything about this? Neither GradCafe nor the excel sheet mention anything about interviews to these universities...
heartintheclouds Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) I’m still waiting on a handful of schools but I’m already prepared to apply again next year. This was my first go around as IR applicant, rejected from 10+ schools (including 1 I interviewed for). 3.72 UG GPA (poli sci major at top 30 uni), >4.0 Grad GPA (data analytics at an Ivy), 2 years as an IPE RA, TA for 2 classes taught at Ivy, now working as a data scientist for a political consulting company for a year. GRE is 162Q 160V 4.5W. American. SOP was about studying dynamics between international institutions. Not sure where I went wrong but how can I improve my application? Should I assume it was a chance thing and reapply just changing up my SOP a bit or should I do more i.e. rethink my research proposal or retake the GRE? Edited February 13 by heartintheclouds
applicant145676 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) ^^^I'm in a similar boat - one waitlist, two rejections, a few pending. Without know anything about your SOP or research background in the past I'd suggest it is likely worth retaking the GRE. I don't think a high GRE is enough to get accepted, but a low GRE is likely enough to get rejected. It's also one of the few things you can directly control. Certain research agendas may be more favorably reviewed year to year depending on who is on the committee and all the idiosyncracies of selection. But a high GRE is something you have direct control over and is a very objective measure. Edited February 13 by applicant145676
erm Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Has anyone in AP heard from UNC or Penn State? I'm seeing rejections in portal for UNC on the admissions page and have seen a little on Penn State, but my portals have nothing. 0A/2W/5R/6P
nondeterministic Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I wonder how much people Chicago is going to admit, given their funding issues. I saw one lone acceptance and one waitlist in the ocean of rejections. How will this situation squeeze the spots at other top schools? Notably, Harvard is also cutting their spots on a school-wide basis, although not sure the extent to which Government is affected.
IRpolsci21 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 How was the UMinnesota notification sent? I haven't heard anything from them.
applicant145676 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I was told that Harvard Govt is cutting to 10 from 16 M1nT 1
heartintheclouds Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Did everyone who applied to Columbia and got rejected get an email notification to be considered for their MA?

heartintheclouds Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I got rejected from an interview via email from the professor that I wanted to work with. I already followed up saying thank you, but is it okay if I follow up again asking for more specific feedback since I'll be applying again?

I heard from a professor who is on the admissions committee that they only admitted 2 applicants for IR, 2 for comparative, and none for methods.
poliscicomm Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Is it true that WashU sent out all offers already? i havent heard from them at all.. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14wqgV9JigMHmPXi4pgU-l8JvZc8AFqT2Q-badkoSTKo/edit?pli=1&gid=1742551378#gid=1742551378)
