bzcww3 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Congrats! What is your first choice? I just received news about funding for a Graduate Honor Award . However, I will likely attend another school once I receive the official acceptance so this funidng will be available for others.
Application_Overwhelmed Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I just got an email!!!!! Full tuition remission and assistantship! I just found out I got the same award today! So excited!!!!!!!!
jb08 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Congrats! What is your first choice? Congrats to you too! My top choice is actually an M.A. program in peace studies, not one of the MANY MPP or MPA programs where I applied.
bzcww3 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Very nice! Which school is that program at? I noticed the $24k scholarship at CMU...very jealous! Congrats to you too! My top choice is actually an M.A. program in peace studies, not one of the MANY MPP or MPA programs where I applied. Edited March 9, 2011 by bzcww3
wishful thinking Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I submitted my application in January. Do you think I should call -- still haven't heard a peep from SPA... I received acceptance to GW and USC.
Application_Overwhelmed Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I submitted my application in January. Do you think I should call -- still haven't heard a peep from SPA... I received acceptance to GW and USC. It might be worth a call. I applied on February 1st and heard back that I was officially accepted on February 10th...
canesfan2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I submitted my application in January. Do you think I should call -- still haven't heard a peep from SPA... I received acceptance to GW and USC. I wouldn't worry about it... I applied on Nov. 26 with stats way above the means and didn't hear back until last week... still haven't heard about financial aid.
Sophia724 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I applied to SPA Political Communication program and was accepted with tuition remission and a RA offer that I think is pretty low. Has anyone else been offered a similar deal? Is there anyway for me to perhaps ask/negotiate for more money? Or am I way off base and being greedy?
DCHopeful Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I applied to SPA Political Communication program and was accepted with tuition remission and a RA offer that I think is pretty low. Has anyone else been offered a similar deal? Is there anyway for me to perhaps ask/negotiate for more money? Or am I way off base and being greedy? I haven't heard anything yet from them, so I'd be happy with anything. But if you are fielding better offers from other schools, I've been told that there is a little bit of negotiation power. If SPA is your first choice, I would certainly take the next steps in trying to negotiate a better offer. It can't hurt, right?
Application_Overwhelmed Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I was hoping someone might be able to answer a question for me. I was given a graduate honor award to AU for full tuition remission (eek! ) and just received the official letter in the mail today. It says that I have an added requirement through a service component to partner with faculty and/or administration within SPA. My merit award requires a service component of 10 to 20 hours of service per week (as a TA, GA, etc). My question is whether this is work I will receive wages from or if it really is just a "service" I need to complete for the university in order to receive my award. In one place it refers to this as "service" and elsewhere as "employment". Anyone have any insight?
bzcww3 Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Did anyone attend the admitted students day on Saturday?
Application_Overwhelmed Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Did anyone attend the admitted students day on Saturday? I was there...
bzcww3 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 What are your thoughts on the program? Have you come to a decision yet? I was there...
RPCV2010 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Hey all, Got into both GW and American for their MPA programs. I'm going to be focusing on the managerial side of things, versus the policy side. So far, American seems to be a better choice for me given that preference. (I do understand that GW has better brand recognition overall.) Anyone else have an opinion? If so, please explain why.
ahoskins321 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Has anyone heard anything about funding who was accepted to the MPP program? It looks like decisions came out around this time last year.
WmHooper Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Has anyone heard anything about funding who was accepted to the MPP program? It looks like decisions came out around this time last year. I spoke with someone in the MPP/MPA office and funding decisions should be out next week.

K.Ash Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I was admitted to the MPA back in January -- I emailed the general SPA account today asking when I might hear about funding. Fingers crossed for all of us!
shqiperiatilmay Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Hey everyone--long time lurker, first time poster. I received an email regarding funding from SPA yesterday. I applied and was accepted to the MPA program at the beginning of February. Good luck everyone, and congrats on all the admits!
AndreaAce Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Hey everyone--long time lurker, first time poster. I received an email regarding funding from SPA yesterday. I applied and was accepted to the MPA program at the beginning of February. Good luck everyone, and congrats on all the admits! If you don´t mind telling, how much did you get? I was admitted a month ago but have not heard anything about funding!!!! Do you know if everyone gets an e-mail, or just the people how get aid?
shqiperiatilmay Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I got an award for 18 credits (~25k)/yr....I didn't have any notion of what I might get from AU for aid (as opposed to other schools that are part of the Peace Corps Fellows program), so I was pleasantly surprised As far as who gets an email, I have zero idea if everyone will eventually get one (regardless of aid), or if only those receiving awards will. Sorry!
K.Ash Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 congrats, shqiperiatilmay! I am going to call them tomorrow - if I'm not getting anything, I'd appreciate knowing so I can move on and make a decision.
readyornot Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I've also emailed them to find out if they plan to notify all students, or just those they will be giving funding to. Will update if I get a response. @K. Ash let us know what you hear!
