  1. Hi!!! Is anyone applying to GSI or GSSA positions? I'm trying to apply to a few GSSA that are due tomorrow but I don't one requisite: "a letter or e-mail from your academic advisor confirming that you are in good academic standing, not on fellowship support, and are approved for a 50% appointment." I have wrote the Ford admissions staff twice but have not gotten a response. What are you doing about this?
  2. I have just received 5k per year. I'm grateful but NYC is expensive, I was hoping for more
  3. I have a similar problem. My top choices are Ford and Wagner. Ford gave me $0 financial aid, I'm still applying to some external fellowships but I'm not counting on them and I'm still waiting on Wagner. I also got in to the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, that is offering me half the tuition, leaving the 2 years in 13.500 EUR (about 18.000 USD). I like the school but it is new and its prestige is nowhere near U MIch or NYU. Also it doesn't have a concentration in social policy that is my area of interest. On the positive side, there is the possibility of doing the second year in SIPA, LSE or Science Po but is not something you can count on (only 10% of the class manage to do the dual degree). I donĀ“t know what to do, should I go to Ford or Wagner with 80k or more in debt (I have 25k from a local fellowship), go to Berlin and hope I get into the dual degree with SIPA or defer to next year and find other sources of funding even though I'm ready to do my masters this year?
  4. I've been searching for GSI positions all day and here are the problems I encountered: The Ford GSI application deadline was yesterday so that is no longer an option. The other departments state clearly that preference is given to their own students (I checked history and poli sci since those are my undergraduate majors). Is anyone applying to the David Bohnett Foundation fellowship? I'm planning on submitting an application even though I think my chances are small. I'm an international student and the website says preference will be given to Michigan residents.
  5. I was accepted but I didn't do the optional essay. I was planning on writing it but at the end I wasn't happy with any of my drafts.
  6. I hope so, if I don't get funding I don't think I can make this work.
  7. I have a $50.000 loan/scholarship (they lend you the money but if you come back to Colombia they give half as a scholarship) and 10k in savings but I'm still short, especially if I choose NYU. I'm hoping to get some financial aid from either NYU or Ford to make this doable. For anyone from latin america or the caribeann, the OAS has a great interest free loans programm than lends you up to 15k for studying in the US. http://www.oas.org/en/rowefund

Hi, I have been accepted to NYU Wagner but I'm really worried about the living costs in the city. I don't mind getting a roommate and a short commute (15-20 min), do you thing I could find something decent for less than $1000? How much do you thing I would need for everything else (utilities, food, personal expenses)? Finally, do you know which neighborhoods could work for me?
  9. Just got accepted to the MPA Public and Non-Profit Management program!!!!
  10. I received the same email, waitlisted and the list is unranked. I have no idea what they mean with that.
  11. In in at Michigan as well. Now I have to wait for Wagner and GPPI.
  12. I was via e-mail. It was personalized (just my name). It said that the applications had gone up 42% this year, I don't know if it just something they tell rejects to make them (us) feel better or if it is true. Since it is such a small class (30 I think) I imagine they called all admitted students early this week (I could be wrong). After I heard about the calls I was kind of expecting the rejection mail.
  13. I was rejected yesterday. I think a couple of people got acceptance calls early this week.
  14. I hope it is today, the waiting is driving me crazy (I'm also waiting on GPPI and NYU Wagner). I have a couple of questions (in case they decide to accept me): One of the things I would like to do in my MPP is strengthen my quant skills (since I have almost none). I took differential calculus, statistics (for social sciences) and I'm currently taking intro to micro, but I'm still worried about not being able to handle the coursework, is there a math preparation course during the summer or something like that? do you think someone with my background can handle the quant of the school? How doable is getting an internship during the summer for an international student? I would have no problem getting an internship in my country but what I want is to get some professional experience in the US. I'm worried that the location of Ford will affect the possibilities of landing a great internship. Thanks for your help!!!
