Apple_7th Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 The admission committee emailed me that I made through the first round in their review. However, I need to find a major professor who is willing to support me and give me a RA. I have try to contact one professor, but no reply till now. The committee also tried to contact the faculty I mentioned in my sop. Can I try to contact several faculties at the same time? Whether this is impolite to do so? Thanks!
Langoustine Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I don't think it is impolite to contact multiple people at the same time. I wouldn't do it in the same email, tailor each email to the professor and of course email people you are seriously considering working with! I don't know if you are in any kind of time crunch but it sounds like you should try and get this situation squared away as soon as possible! Good luck! And congrats on getting through the first round!
hardcrashxyz Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 I am in same situation with GBCB program. I think it is appropriate to send out more than one letter at a time to different professors. I would only send them out to professors that match your research interests fairly well. I sent out five emails within the first few days of being notified about passing stage one. I have heard back from three. Two have not replied.
Apple_7th Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 Thanks, I prefer rotation in fact. Since I am in China, it is quite difficult for me to choose my future mentor at once. I don't think it is impolite to contact multiple people at the same time. I wouldn't do it in the same email, tailor each email to the professor and of course email people you are seriously considering working with! I don't know if you are in any kind of time crunch but it sounds like you should try and get this situation squared away as soon as possible! Good luck!
