cocono
Does anyone know of any programs in Government Affairs/International Affairs, Asian Languages or Russian languages in the NY or DC area that have rolling admissions and possibly a summer start? Unfortunately my current school/work plan fell through and now I'm in 'crunch time' trying to find an alternative. (Nationwide freeze on hiring in federal positions) Ideally I would like to end up in the foreign service field either public or private sector; I also have an interest in humanitarian affairs, especially anti-human trafficking initiatives. I've studied International Politics, Italian, Mandarin & Russian and have a basic command of Arabic. I've just narrowly missed most deadlines for the fall but I know there has to be something out there. I am taking the GRE Saturday as my previous MS Criminal Justice degree from Boston University did not require me to take it. I am aware that it is too late to get into any of the top schools but as returning to school right now is my only option I am willing to forgo a top name to further my education and hopefully make it into Georgetown's foreign service program down the road. I sincerely appreciate any help anyone could give. I am 'planner' and am extremely stressed as I did not expect myself to get into this sort of situation but would rather not sit out and wait another whole year to begin a program since there are no jobs out there, especially in my fields of interest! Thank you

CC139
If you're willing to consider a kind of broad program, look into Columbia's QMSS. Looks like it's a good feeder to other programs and has a rolling admission with an April deadline.

I'm working on an app for their EALAC program as well.
greendiplomat
I do know NYU's MPA also has a later deadline than most... April or May, I think. In general, though, have you thought about working for a year and coming back strong to apply in the next cycle? Yes, you might end up being unemployed for a few months before landing something, but I definitely think the financial loss you'll incur from attending a graduate program not really right for you will be larger on the long run than the loss that you'll incur during those few months off. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression from your original post and the programs you're considering that your career objectives aren't very clear at this point, and, especially considering that you already have a Master's degree, it might be worth using this time to figure out what direction you want to head in next, and to prepare kick-ass applications for fall 2012 so that you can attend the program of your choice, instead of one that just happened to have a later deadline. jmacnomad
thanks I will look into that option, I've never heard of SIT before I did my MA at SIT but in a different program. They focus a lot on building practical, on the ground skills. Alumni are working all over the place in sustainable development.
