Strangefox Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I have just watched BBC live coverage of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and it really put all my recent worries and fears in perspective and made them seem small and insignificant. I suggest that we should stop right now obsessing about our application status or rejections or insufficient funding and think how irrelevant these things are compared to the great tragedy that has happened, that is happening right now. Let up pray for those who are in Japan now, or at least let us think about these people and may be our collective thoughts will change the course of events somehow... Oh well, it is a stupid idea may be, but I can't think about other things now, really. Bumblebee and moralresearcher 2
pinot noir Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I absolutely agree. While watching the news this morning I felt so selfish for obsessing over this process.
jmacnomad Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I recently watched the documentary "waiting for superman," which followed several kids who were in the lottery for charter schools. Most of the schools had 700 applications for 20 or fewer spots. The lottery scene was just heart-wrenching as the kids waited to hear if they would be one of the ones allowed a shot at a decent education. Most of them did not get in. I realized how blessed I am to be in the position I am now because my education thus far has provided me with a world of socio-economic opportunity. These kids were fighting for a quality middle school education and against at 65% high school drop-out rate. It also put things in perspective. All the karma I can muster goes out to japan.
