ukraine_eta Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I applied as an ETA in the Ukraine and still haven't heard. Have you gotten any news recently? Those applying ETA/Grant to Ukraine and Russia... think Belarus might be notified at the same time? Eastern Europe all tends to be lopped together... I am waiting to hear about an ETA Belarus, and I am unsure my heart can take it! Anyone else recommended for Belarus ?? Thanks! I haven't heard anything from Ukraine yet, but am hopeful about next week. I hope they don't seperate out the ETAs and Full grants when they notify. As to Belarus, I believe that the Eastern European committees are seperate, so I don't think geographic proximity is going to be a factor in responses. But I'm just as in the dark as everyone else. We're in the home stretch. Hang in there! lm05anti 1
lizclaire28 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I just received my alternate email as well. Great.
caramel08girl Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I just received my alternate email as well. Great. I am so sorry! but don't lose hope! You live in michigan? do you go to u of michigan?
lizclaire28 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I am so sorry! but don't lose hope! You live in michigan? do you go to u of michigan? I go to Michigan State. I didn't think it would be so hard to get that email though. But it's better than a flat out rejection, I suppose. Trying to stay positive.
caramel08girl Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Yes, stay positive! But, I feel you! Yes, I am trying to figure out how I will handle my email when it finally arrives. :-/

We're in the home stretch. Hang in there! Not all Eastern European countries have committees. Russia and Ukraine have their own committees but I read on a Fulbright podcast transcript that Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, and Georgia make up the Eurasia regional program (Azerbaijan was included too but they have already heard) and that their grants are decided together. I was trying to find out if there were any countries other than Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in the region my application is a part of but I can't seem to find that information. So far it seems most likely that it's only those three.
me6809 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 When did you receive it?? I found out this morning at 10 am... I just email Jörgen about the pool and such... I am bummed but optimistic...

I sort of had that feigned hope that it would be with Ukraine and Russia, simply because I heard Russia would be finding out soon... Will Latvia be doing the Orientation in DC as well?
AndrewJ Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 On April 3rd, Rachel informed me that Ukraine should know "in the next two weeks"....... Hi Morshinksa, This is a great piece of information. Thanks for asking Rachel about it. I also applied to Ukraine (full grant) and I'm waiting to hear back. Did you apply for a full grant or ETA?

Will Latvia be doing the Orientation in DC as well? Latvia doesn't have any ETAs and therefore there is no pre-departure orientation. And hold tight, last year Armenia and Moldova heard on 4/12 and 4/10 respectively. Any day now!

Of course, that means I'll be even twitchier than usual!
harees Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 are you full/eta? what country? I haven't seen anything like that in my email but it sounds like a good sign. I'm a finalist for ETA in Oman.
LLJKEdge Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I may have missed this earlier, but is there a facebook group for Germany Fulbright?
lizclaire28 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I found out this morning at 10 am... I just email Jörgen about the pool and such... I am bummed but optimistic... What pool? Let me know what he says. Good for you for staying optimistic! I'm trying to as well, but it's difficult.
sfm430 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I may have missed this earlier, but is there a facebook group for Germany Fulbright? the germany ETA page? http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rutgers-University-Libraries/175081641956#!/groups/410265979000617/
sfm430 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 What pool? Let me know what he says. Good for you for staying optimistic! I'm trying to as well, but it's difficult. Definitely go the optimistic route! For me, I applied to both and was accepted to Germany, but got alternate for Austria so... it's all just a crap-shoot, ya know. But I really do think with all the people who applied to both programs and got accepted to both, a good number of those are gonna choose Germany, so... there ya go.
strgrl522 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 That is an amazing accomplishment! What program are you looking to pursue? What should I do? My deadline to accept the offer to my grad school is the 15th (which is Sunday, so really - do they mean Friday? Or Monday?) I STILL haven't heard re Fulbright (Spain, Full). I'm going to wait one more day but by tomorrow, I feel like really need to contact my school. It's the only offer I received; it's full funding, with a TA Stipend, and I'm very much interested in working with the professors there. So what happens? Do I accept the offer and then if I get the Fulbright, ask for a deferral? Should I be upfront and honest with them that I'm waiting to hear back and if I hear, I'll definitely accept? Or do I just accept and then hope like crazy they will defer/be understanding? ARRRGGHH!!!!
lkjl2007 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Austria USTA alternates--I'm so sorry, but congrats on becoming an alternate, that is something to be proud of (and according to multiple people, something to also put on a resume!) Over in the Fulbright Germany group on Facebook, there are two or three people who have declined their USTA in favor of Germany, so with any kind of luck you will hear very soon that you've been offered grants! Crossing my fingers for all of you. TPliske8711 1
ANLstyle Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Hello Potential Fulbrighters, I was recommended for a full grant to Trinidad and Tobago. I've been feeling pressed for time since grad school deadlines are on April 15th so I decided to email Pamela and ask her about a potential timeline. I'll keep everyone posted!!!
ellyj Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Hey Spain ETA peeps... I just called Rachel and she said, "we will probably be announcing the grantees in the coming week." I don't know if that means this week (I hope, but probably not?) or next week... but still it's soon-ish! lg702 and dcminot 2

I really hope so; I was so surprised Rachel said "mid or late April" because in the past, Armenia has found out the first and second week of April. Hopefully it'll be soon! I just want to knowwwww! lm05anti 1
