  1. Got promoted to conduct research in Trinidad! Dreams do come true! Yuuuup.
  2. ALT to Trinidad. My heart stopped a bit when I saw the ALT designation :/ To save myself the agony of further waiting and hoping, I am going note alternate status in my CV and carry on as if I was rejected. Thanks for everyone's support on this site, it has helped me tremendously. I'm going to take a hiatus for a while.
  3. Oh, man. You made my night! Here's to hoping we all get good news!
  4. Oh yeah, Caribbean notifications.... Is this the week or what? I'm tired of putting my life on hold because of bureaucratic red tape!
  5. Thanks for the call ROC14627, did she say soon, hinting at very soon, or is very soon your interpretation? It's interesting how she won't promise a date anymore... hmmm.
  6. Fulbright notifications for the Caribbean applicants... whatever, dude.
  7. Thanks for the call rtlc06! No judgement, I broke down two weeks ago and shot Pamela an email. So basically we are back to square one. It could come as early as now or the notifications can come in a few weeks. I don't understand why she would say we would be notified last week. Perhaps she's going off the normal turnaround time for the FSB? And yes, the vibe I'm getting is the emails come on in the morning, so anything after 3pm EST is a wash for the day.
  8. Hmm so no Caribbean notifications yet? I wonder what the hold up is!
  9. Caribbean peeps.... The wait continues. We are all in this together.
  10. Hey Orlanac21, I am in the same boat. I turned down several offers because of the Fulbright Fellowship. Let's keep the positive energy flowing!
  11. To all the Caribbean folks, I just got an email from Pamela at around 1:10 PM PST. This is the week!!! Fingers crossed and good karma passed! Hi XXXX, I hope selection notifications will go out this week. Best, Pam
  12. Urghhh, it looks like you're right. Jeez... This wait is horrendous. Looks like I have to notify graduate schools before I hear back from the Fulbright.
  13. Ugh, another day without notifications!
  14. Hello Potential Fulbrighters, I was recommended for a full grant to Trinidad and Tobago. I've been feeling pressed for time since grad school deadlines are on April 15th so I decided to email Pamela and ask her about a potential timeline. I'll keep everyone posted!!!
  15. Hey All, Did anyone else get passed the first stage of the Fulbright but haven't been notified about the Fulbright Committee's final decision? The Fulbright contact person has been vague about when Fulbright notifications will come out for specific countries. There is a chance I will hear back from the Fulbright committee after April 15th. I'm confused about what I should. Does it make sense to accept a school's offer and later decline their offer once I hear back from the Fulbright? Or does that burn bridges and create a bad image? Do I decline the offer and hope for the Fulbright to work out? How does one gracefully navigate through this situation?
  16. Yup, I got an email late last week!
  17. @sciencegirl- Those are all great points, thanks disseminating the knowledge!
  18. @sciencegirl- The Stanford tenure process is almost as difficult to achieve as the Harvard tenure process. The last time someone from the sociology department received tenure was in the mid 1990s. What Stanford and Harvard do is just hire established professors in the field and give them a full professorship title. I do think Dr. Jimenez is amazing and his work is incredible but trends are trends. At Stanford, I can't think of anyone full professor who does stuff using primarily qualtitative methods. Maybe I'm wrong?
  19. Thanks for this, wannabeaphd! You should add sofreakingbad to the end of your username, that way you can be like Bruno Mars.
  20. For the UCLA 2012 admits-- Did anyone get any more information about the visitation days? I haven't heard about the schedule or anything.
  21. Does anyone know why UCLA's atmosphere is so competitive? U of Washington's atmosphere is very collegial. Everyone co-publishes and there is much equality in the program.
  22. Congrats on this thread getting over 20,000. It's quite an accomplishment for an online community of under 50 sociologists... We're all obsessed!
  23. My mix tape consists of Usher, Trey Songz, Drake and Ne-Yo. What can I say, I was born in the city.
  24. Haha yes, you hit the nail right on the head. I don't know how to factor in prestige when making a decision because UBC isn't included in USNWR.
