kolja00 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Calm before the storm. mhmm. Tomorrow and Friday should be pretty crazy Im thinking.
Max Power Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 there's a columbia acceptance up. anyone want to claim?
Otherworlder Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Just curious: would ye happy Stanford admits tell us your subfield and research area? I think I noticed a couple IR? Might be easier to gauge is they are truly "done" to see if all subfields are accounted for. Stanford staggering is killing me.
kolja00 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 These staggered POI emails are killing me. Just send out one mass email at once schools!!
shavasana Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 @Otherworlder I'm IR with a regional focus on the Middle East. shavasana 1
potbellypete Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 These staggered POI emails are killing me. Just send out one mass email at once schools!! Unfortunately, as was the case with Michigan and MIT, the one mass email rarely is good
ohsnap Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yay for all of the Cornell admits...at least someone is releasing information!
ginsburg Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Is Cornell speedy this year? Btw, this is what absolutely real news look like, 6 posts in very short time, with matching details. That's a wave of admissions, the Yale one has been so sporadic so far.
RWBG Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 To be fair, I only looked at the results table, but is it just me or is NYU not included in this analysis at all? Anybody know why? At first I thought maybe it just drops their rank so low, but they place pretty well, and these rankings go down pretty low. They seem to be the only school I applied to not included in that table. I've wondered that myself, actually. In any event, I think most placement rankings are not going to be able to evaluate NYU well, given that the faculty was so radically reshaped, and they've only had a couple years of students that have gone through with the new faculty. You'd be better off just looking at the raw data: https://sites.google.com/site/honestgraduatenumbers/
Megan Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Seriously, the staggering is making me INSANE.
L119 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hi, everyone! First time poster, long time lurker. I posted today's Columbia acceptance -- got an email from POI earlier to let me know that I had been accepted with fellowship (details forthcoming). I am also in at Stanford, Michigan and Berkeley's Jurisprudence and Social Policy program so far, with concentrations in political philosophy/legal theory/public law. Good luck to everyone still waiting, and I'd love to be in touch with anyone planning to attend admitted students events at any of the schools mentioned above!

The grad students working in my area are producing work I'm interested in. Obviously there are profs I'm excited about. All-in-all I'm pretty thrilled with that acceptance (since I seem not to be getting into other places I applied, I'm starting to wonder if they made a mistake!). I was just wondering why it was left off that list altogether.
balledematch Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) This waiting is killing me. Other than the mass email from MIT, I haven't heard from any PhD program. I was so geared up to hear from Columbia today....hopefully it happens in the next two hours!! Good luck to everyone, congrats to the posted Columbia admit, and to all others that heard today. L119 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 was the POI at columbia jeff lax or justin phillips perchance? Nope -- David Johnston in theory.
Overtherainbow Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hi, I've been lurking here for quite a long time, and now posting for the first time. I am claiming one of the Cornell acceptances. Congrats to everyone who received acceptances today! potbellypete 1
CairoKid Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Got a call from a number I didn't recognize. I was so hopeful that I was finally going to hear from one of my programs. Nope. It was the photography studio taking care of my school's senior portraits calling to remind me of my appointment. Also, I emailed Chicago to see if they were done with admits. No word yet, but I'll inform anyone wondering once/if I hear back.

I know the feeling; felt the same way after Wisconsin. Also, is it just me, or is the gradcafe server not built to handle mid-February?
ginsburg Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Also, is it just me, or is the gradcafe server not built to handle mid-February? Very often times the web shows "too many requests, try later", I believe in some midnights they even crash the server, since I occasionally would see "504 gateway time out" sign

I've applied to Berkeley's JSP program as well and have not heard anything. So I guess that must be a reject. Good for you! Your profile must be very impressive. Were you the person who posted acceptance into the program more than a week back?

I was the one that posted -- heard back on Friday, February 3rd. I am not sure where they are at in terms of admissions decision, but I am speaking to someone from there tomorrow and can poke around a bit. Good luck!
