I just saw the UNC post on the results search page. I had a good laugh. I know people are not in the mood for any jokes related to school results, but that was kind of hilarious. I was thinking "man this person must be next door neighbors with this particular prof!" Anyways, keep us all posted for news from schools.

Me too. I had a typo at my SOP to the most schools I sent my application. The worst thing is, the typo was a glaring word repetition (2 words at that) in the very 2nd line of the SOP. Bummer! I'm still at a loss how the repetition escaped my eyes and MS Word.

I don't think a typo will kill you. Sometimes people put the wrong school name in their SOP and get admitted.

To clarify, are you saying that you just got an email saying your decision was online and then couldn't see what it was? Or they told you the decision, but you just couldn't see it on the site at that time?

Either way, I think we'll know what the decision is if we hear back before anyone else.

the latter - I received an e-mail accepting me with a copy of the letter attached. a few days later the same letter was available online. this was early February, so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that all early news is bad news from them!

I don't think you should worry about UVA. It may be that the person who got admitted got an unofficial, off-the-record acceptance from a faculty contact. Which is what happened to me today (not for UVA, I swear). I haven't posted it on the results page because I don't want to worry those who are still waiting.

Or it may be that the UVA guy/gal is screwing with us...

I have been lurking this year, but I did post a few times last year. This is my second cycle and it is off to a great start. So, second cyclers ( I just made that up), keep your chin up--miracles happen:)

Come now, best of men. Not telling us after telling us that you're not telling us will just worry us more.

UVA decisions will be out this week, not sure which day.

What do people make of this thread from the job site?

Apparently at some big unnamed schools, admittees from the wait list are treated like so much chattle, disposed of when they can no longer be used! This makes me feel friskily Marxist.

A lot of it is nonsense -- if they need that many TA's they'll hire from other disciplines. Any idiot can teach intro level polisci.

Just got a letter from DGS at Madison (small envelope) dated 2/2. Department has recommended me for admission. Excerpt: "The Graduate School will be notifying you once your admission has been finalized. I will also be providing you with more details of your funding package. For now rest assured that you are guaranteed full tuition, a stipend, and inexpensive health care coverage for at least five years as you make normal progress through the program." Visit dates are 3/26-27.

So if you applied here, go check those mailboxes! Of course, mail may take a couple days longer to get to non-Midwestern locations...
