  1. Thanks for the info! Of course getting the fellowship would be sweet but can't complain even if i don't get it.
  2. I will probably be going to FIU starting on a Phd program from this Fall. I'm waiting on a fellowship decision which if get would provide a pretty sweet stipend without having to do TA/RA. In that case I might choose live on a more expensive on-campus housing. The question is, should i live in the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus (which is beautiful but has a lower housing rate) than the Main Campus where i'll go for classes. I don't have a car and I plan to get one this Fall. Are there any supermarkets, groceries etc. near the Biscayne Bay campus, stuff which you can get easily without having to drive? If I choose to live off campus near the FIU Main Campus in Kendall, what are the places i should look at for off campus housing? Places near a bus stop, groceries, the good food joint etc. Thanks for your replies!
  3. Thanks. Good to know. Did they also offer health insurance?
  4. Yes, it's the FIU one. YAGSA, do you know how the grad school selects students nominated for the fellowship? Is it an election or rather they just rubberstamps the departmental nomination?
  5. I'm not sure if this is too personal but how much did they offer you with the TA package? I guess I should like to know beforehand in case the fellowship doesn't get through for some reason.
  6. Well folks, my cycle is over. Got turned down by all 3 of the wait listed programs. What's with the wait lists this year? I expected to get at least one if not more offers from the waitlisted places. Either I've been incredibly unlucky or everyone accepted their offers. Been a tough and underwhelming admissions cycle but kind of expected since it's my first year in my MA program. Time to choose between my two offers. I'm nominated for a sweet presidential fellowship at one of the places. Hopefully that turns up. Anyway, thanks for the camaraderie guys!
  7. Congrats flyers29! PM me and let's talk about the program. There's a good chance we might end up as colleagues at FIU assuming you haven't made up your mind yet about choosing where to go (i haven't).
  8. I enquired the graduate secretary and she said she has processed a lot of denied applications but my application wasn't one of them & the faculty still hasn't made any decision on my application. I think they're still waiting for some people to accept/decline their offers before they make a 2nd and final round of admits off the waitlist. The 1st round was way back in early February.
  9. Anyone not going to Maryland & UMass Amherst, please decline ASAP. I'm on the waitlist on both and the wait is, well, almost unbearable. @Slacktivist: did you decide where you'll go?
  10. Their cycle runs late and in all probabilities, going by previous years, they haven't given out all offers yet.
  11. I'm on the same boat at my wait listed places. Although, in my case, the decisions went out over a month ago and i hear more are yet to be made.
  12. Congratulations! It is a great MA program and will set you good for the best PhD programs in two years. I was admitted to Marquette few years back with the same offer you have now but decided to pass it off for another offer at the last minute.
  13. Congratulations lasthope and athenianstranger. lasthope, Whom did you talk to? Dr. Bratton or Dr. Gasiorowski?
  14. I don't think lasthope got a reply. LSU is definitely running way too late in this cycle. By the way, anyone on the Maryland waiting list (or still haven't heard anything)?
  15. I sent an email to the DGS few days back but haven't heard anything. No news on the results page too.
  16. Slacktivist, couldn't help but notice your signature. You have one of the best acceptance/applications ratios of all polisci phd applicants cycle. Congratulations! Did you decide which school you'd attend?
  17. Thank you wannabe. I'm on wait lists at few places and waiting to hear from few more, so i'm putting off my decision where to go for a few weeks.
  18. In at Georgia State. Got a phone call from a faculty member. Relieved after so many rejections. The department is a good fit for me.
  19. I agree. LSU have a few faculty members with whom i'm interested to work with even though they don't strictly work on my geographical region of interest. They're more into some interesting cross-national stuff.
  20. The graduate secretary is really nice over the phone with a pleasant southern accent.
  21. Comparative. Do you have any idea how many folks apply to the program? Seems to me it's an under-the-radar program.
  22. I expected so. The bet is they will be down even more next year. My advisor wanted me to apply for Fall '12 when competition will be a bit easier than this year.
  23. Followed Slacktivist and e-mailed the DGS at Maryland and heard back that I'm wait listed. Few more weeks before I hear back for a final decision on my file which probably means I'm somewhere in middle of the wait list. Fingers crossed and lots of prayers. After a bunch of rejections, at least some sort of good news and that too on my birthday.
