jamesmadison Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 East Lansing -- Ann Arbor is way too cool for the likes of me! GO GREEN!
mormegil Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 That was me. I received an e-mail this morning from the graduate director stating that they had accepted me, and will be sending information regarding any financial offers via postal mail. Buffalo was my safety school, but it still feels good to get admitted into the program. Congrats! I stopped myself from applying to Buffalo as I heard that what with the state budget in NY being a mess the funding situation in SUNYs is pretty dismal.
natofone Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Wow very impressive... i'm surprised Yale rejected you.. makes me a bit worry about my fate.. when did they reject you? I thought the same thing. It could have resulted from the area studies vs generalist divide within comparative. Some departments have hangups on area specialists. Unless I'm mistaken, Yale isn't known as one of the area studies schools (like Chicago, Michigan, Berkeley). I suspect she/he'll be getting into a slew of places very soon.
catchermiscount Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 That was a nice game last night, by the way.
jamesmadison Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 It was - speaking of Michigan, my adviser told me that they're not far along in the decision making process. Funny, I thought only their sports teams were lethargic this year.
twright Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 21 schools? Impressive. I have to disagree; I think that shows indecision and a lack of focus, but hey plisar was admitted to Wisconsin, and I, apparently, was not, so what do i know????
BruBru Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Congrats! I stopped myself from applying to Buffalo as I heard that what with the state budget in NY being a mess the funding situation in SUNYs is pretty dismal. I fear you are correct about the opportunity for funding. The language of the e-mail seemed very cautious, as to warn admits not to expect anything significant with regards to funding.
driftwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Now I haven't applied to Duke myself, but someone on this blog https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=21008160&postID=314287100600527945 reported an admit yesterday
spark25 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 It seems like NYU results are out as well. Congrats to one who got accepted!
intapp001 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 irishjstrife and mdnicx42 - which other schools are you waiting to hear from?
convex Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Dear NYU, You should let me in today. Toodles, Convex
mdnicx42 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I am waiting on Georgetown, MIT, Northwestern, NYU, Princeton, UCLA, and UT-Austin. Keeping fingers crossed.
jamesmadison Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 One of my classmates heard from a UT Austin professor last week that she was in. Her adviser and the prof were close.
mormegil Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Why is Northwestern not notifying? Why o why ??
spark25 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 oh my UCSD also started notifying as well. Congrats to the one who got admitted.
fenderpete Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 COME ON STANFORD!!!!!!!! I can't take much more of this.
poliscidude Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I'm still waiting for UVA to get on with it and officially tell me something. Anyone have any estimate of how long it could be until they send out the second "wave" of answers?
doctorwho Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 COME ON STANFORD!!!!!!!! I can't take much more of this. Couldn't have said it any better myself! My mother-in-law doesn't know I've applied and she's coming over to babysit today. This means either no checking the forum for results - or I have to sneak glances. But I'd be much happier if we had some news before she arrives in about an hour. Say, you think the DGS would be sympathetic and give me a sneak peek at results? Yeah right!

Anyone have any estimate of how long it could be until they send out the second "wave" of answers? Please post something here if you do in fact hear back from UVA. I am with you on this one. Do you mind telling me what your sub-field is? I am guessing it could be different according to sub-field, but I could always be wrong.
