Clay Made Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I have one chance to take the new test in order to boost the chances of me receiving as much aid as possible for grad school (reading for an MA in international relations). I have 9 weeks before I would have to schedule the test. I have taken the old test before. Did reasonably well (Q740 v690) but I know I can do better. Questions: 1) How did you begin your studying for the GRE? 2) Are 9 weeks enough? Thanks! starrylanterns and greendiplomat 2
maeisenb Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 9 weeks is enough. Just do a chapter of math a week (should take 6-7 weeks) in whatever book you prefer. Get a vocabulary book and memorize 10 words a day 6 days a week, then use the 7th day to review the previous week's. That should take you about 6-7 weeks and then keep reviewing after that. Take a few tests during those 6-7 weeks and then take 1-2 a week for the last 2-3 weeks. All of that being said, your scores seem probably good enough to get a decent financial aid package, since that's only a portion of what they take into account for funding. Best of luck though.
George2248 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 9 weeks is more than enough... after that youll end up without more material to practice
Double Dawg Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 9 weeks is plenty of time, however there is probably only a small chance that increasing your scores will provide much benefit. Your score is already great... a score that is marginally better (there isnt much room to improve) will likely yield little marginal benefit.
Robosagogo Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) Have you contacted any of the schools you're applying to to ask if a higher score will actually affect the amount of aid that you receive? At the risk of stating the obvious, don't waste 9 weeks on something if you don't know for a fact that there'll be a payoff at the end. Edited November 3, 2011 by Robosagogo
