The list is quite random, there is a limit of 10 options, so I picked the six schools I am applying to + my alma mater + 2 from the top 10 programs.

I guess most of the ones I applied to weren't on your list: Dartmouth, JHU, Princeton, UCSB, UCSD, WUSTL, UIC and Wisconsin

From the ones on the poll I applied to Berkeley, UWashington and Georgia Tech.

Same here. Most of the schools that I'm applying to are not in that list:

Duke, Brown, Princeton, UVA, UW - Seattle, UM, Northwestern, UCSD, UCSB

I wonder how many of those 14 who applied to Berkeley got in, from the results page it seems like they rejected everyone!

One of my buddies at school got into Berkeley before February - but he had first-author publication at a top conference and a quite strong recommendation from a professor who was an alum of Berkeley.

probably because of its location. uiuc is a GREAT school but it's in the middle of nowhere in the midwest. you can actually smell the manure from the fields if you are outside some of the dorms. i kid you not.

that's just my two cents.

what i want to know is... so many schools made their offers in january and the first few days of february this year. only jhu and penn are lagging behind (from the schools i'm tracking). anyone know why they started so early? last year cmu made offers mid february and now it looks like they were making offers in january.

umich is located in a way cool area.

maryland? i don't know about that.

plus, umich is an all around very highly regarded school - grad, undergrad, whatever.
