sshrchopeful Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Congrats to all you MA folk who were successful. For the rest of us doctoral applicants, hopefully we get good news next week!
sylvinka Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 The results are out... My application was SUCCESSFUL! YAY! Good luck everyone! Congratulations! I guess you too are Master student. I guess we will need to wait one week more:(
jaivirdi Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 What do you mean when you say "Results are out!" Did you get a letter, find out from your department or faculty of graduate studies? And Congrats!
ashleyv Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 What do you mean when you say "Results are out!" Did you get a letter, find out from your department or faculty of graduate studies? And Congrats! I found out from the women who heads the SSHRC committee at my school... She has access to the secure site. She said the results are being mailed out on Thursday or Friday. So you should receive them in the mail next week sometime depending on where you live.
dramanda Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Yes, I am a Master's student. Thanks and congratulations!

I'm calling my department and the FGS today.
jouissance Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Does anyone know who my wife should contact in lieu of FGS, when the time comes; she applied nationally, since she is not currently in school...when I did the same, I remember that I received my letter a couple of weeks after everyone in school knew...in our case, this type of delay will really cause some problems re: moving with kids. PS: I, too, have found this forum much more informative than SSHRC itself. Thanks!

If so, she can try contacting the FGS at that school.
sylvinka Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hi Guys. Response from our Grad Studies on PhD applications: I received confirmation that the results will be out during the week of May 11 - 15. They are only releasing the CGS Masters this week. So be patient...

natalia Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Okay, so the Master's results are out... but it's not over. I just got the strangest email. Check out the weirdness below: Good afternoon! The Government of Canada recently announced the allocation of additional funding to support "business-related" research. As a result, SSHRC has announced a special call for J. Armand Bombardier CGS Master's applications with a focus on "business-related" research. All applications must meet the eligibility criteria as listed on the SSHRC website www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca,and only applications that meet the program's requirement for a significant research training component will be accepted. For research considered "business-related", please refer to the excerpt below from a communication sent to the scholarly community by SSHRC's President, Dr. Chad Gaffield, earlier this year: Excerpt from Dr. Chad Gaffield
Cree8tiveGyal Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Congrats DOOD and ASHLEYV and all other MAs who applied and finally received their results. I'm going to pretend the PhD results are out also, and that I've been rejected....lol.....it will help me survive the next week! Good look everyone else!

ashleyv Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 This might be a little off topic but does anyone know how the SSHRC award is paid out? Do they pay your fee's for the year and then give the rest to the receipient? Or do they split it up over all three semesters? Does it have to all be spent on school fees?

They don't pay your fees with it, they divide it up evenly over 12 months and drop it in your bank account for you to do with as you please.
jouissance Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 They don't pay your fees with it, they divide it up evenly over 12 months and drop it in your bank account for you to do with as you please. Yep, that is how it is. Plus
Snasser Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Congrats DOOD and ASHLEYV and all other MAs who applied and finally received their results. I'm going to pretend the PhD results are out also, and that I've been rejected....lol.....it will help me survive the next week! Good look everyone else! That is sage advice, Cree8tiveGyal. I think I will assume the same. The haphazard manner in which this year's competition seems to have been handled is disconcerting: I certainly don't have greater confidence in SSHRC's administrators and with all of this cr@p related to business related degrees and the extreme delays that are never accompanied with satisfying explanations I will admit that my faith in the review process has been shaken. To respond to an earlier question about whether SSHRC is permitted to access grades that did not appear on the transcripts we submitted in our applications: a friend who received a Doc SSHRC last year told me that our grad chair admitted that SSHRC had contacted our department for autumn grades. Whether this is kosher, I have no idea. Beggars can't be choosers, so I have never read the fine print very clearly. Congratulations MA SSHRC people! Celebration time! Pass some of your SSHRC mojo on to us PhDs! My bet for Doc SSHRC announcements is May 14; mailed out on the following Monday.
Cree8tiveGyal Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I'm gonna be the optimist now........I'll go with May 11th for the release of the results, then mailing.........

To clarify, what are we betting on? The date letters are received? Dated? Mailed? The date we find out from our grad secretary/FGS? I guess just the first date someone hears anything about the doc competition?
suhayla Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 congratulations to all who received an award... (I count myself among the lucky few, having just received notification from my department admin). CGS M
Cree8tiveGyal Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I say we go with the first day someone receives notification from their SGS or Department.......Let's gooooooo Monday! (please, please, let it be Monday).
