So, I sent my GRE scores to cornell twice (the last time during the holiday). ETS says they sent it in the first time, but my application status says it hasnt been received.

Do schools just throw out applications for not getting in GRE scores on the deadline? Im freaking out like crazy.

It usually takes some time for the admissions office to update the online status of your application. They get thousands of applications during this time of the year. I'm not sure about Cornell, but I know that it can take almost up to a month for universities to update the online statuses. You just have to be patient.

I wouldn't worry too much. jimmy_01 is right, the admissions office has to update the status of your application. You also have to factor in that the holidays just passed, so offices were likely closed for at least a few days. This is on top of getting lots of materials since they're getting sent lots of application materials.

For what it's worth, whenever I first sent my GRE scores back in November, the website had said that scores were received. However, now the site says that my scores haven't been received (which is peculiar, as I've already received an admissions offer from them).

I think they might have some weird technical issue going on since even though I know they have my scores, the site says otherwise. If you want to make sure though, I don't think it would hurt to call them up tomorrow and check.

Did you call the department and DGS to which you are applying? That would be the first thing to do.

This happened to me when my GRE scores did not "match up." ETS told me that my scores had been sent--they even gave me tracking and routing numbers for the paper and email copies that they had sent to the requested department. However, the name that I used on the GRE was different than the name that I used on my grad app (I included my middle name on my grad app but not on the GRE). My deadline was fast-approaching, so I called the department to which I was applying, and was told by the department secretary that, if names are not *exact,* then there is a "technical" issue. I immediately called the DGS and spoke with the nicest woman, who told me that it was a common problem but that it needed to be cleared by a supervisor, which can take a while. However, because I had called the DGS, she just confirmed some info and put my name at the top of the list, and the scores were listed as accepted (and my application was complete) within 24 hours.

One thing to consider is that (supposedly) many departments will contact you if there is an element of your application that is missing before they just toss it out entirely. They know that mail gets lost, papers get misfiled, etc, and that it's not necessarily the fault of the applicant if this happens.

exactly what loimographia said. the fletcher school just emailed me saying I was missing my GRE scores, although I thought I had sent them back in July when i took the test. Turns out, I sent them to the wrong institution code, but still within Tufts (i was just a little bit frazzled after the test...). Hopefully it wont be a problem and they will be able to send the numbers from the different department to the correct one.

as a side note, the Tufts folks are absolutely amazing with this stuff.

I want to mimic starlajane's comments. I had sent my scores on my test day, and all but one school had confirmed they had received them. With the other program, I contacted the department which I am applying and sent them a photocopy of my score report along with the cycle number and the date ETS sent the scores. I was told this would work and they will be able to access them now given they may have been misfiled them before. If they aren't able to locate them, ETS has said they do offer one-time exceptions to resend a score to a given institution.

Just a side note, the date of the OP was a technial US holiday (post office and banks were closed) so they might not have been in, and they are probably updating a lot of admissions stuff this week (schools and offices may have been closed from Dec 23 - Jan 2 so that's a lot of things they might have to sort through)

Two of the schools on my list indicated they didn't receive the GRE scores. I wrote to GRE and they have been kind enough to immediately mail my scores again without any extra charge.

I don't like the idea of GRE test itself, but I have to compliment them for their professionalism.
