KMSW Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hello, I'm playing the waiting game for CSULA, CSULB and UCLA. I submitted my apps early Dec. Did anyone get accepted to any of these schools yet? I think its too early. I was told I should hear a decision by end of march early April.
aalariemy Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Im pretty sure you should have heard from LB. I believe its rolling admissions for that program, so as soon as your application was received they should have gone over it and made a decision. Contact the schools
rjose Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I applied to Cal State Long Beach and Cal State Los Angeles mid December 2011 and have not heard back from either also. I heard from others that we should hear back by March or April? Are you checking your status online?
KMSW Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Long beach is known for taking a very long time to make a decision. They got 1,200 applications last year alone! Hopefully i hear something soon. As far as checking my status online I have not heard of an option for either LA or LB, Anyone else apply for UCLA?? I'm really interested in this program.
Inspired10 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I am also waiting on UCLA. I believe last year's responses weren't until late February/early March.
KMSW Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 Thanks for the info Inspired10! I hope this is true. I submitted my UCLA app early Dec, hoping for an early response.
MSW Bound Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 CSULB - I applied early November, and received my status (pending) end of November early December. UCLA - At their information they stated that acceptance letters may be sent out in April/May... Entrance is based pretty much on a ranking system. I applied and got accepted into CSUDH's program as well. I am super excited because they have the Community Mental Health component. I did not apply to UCLA because of that $%#@ traffic!
KMSW Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 Westwood is horrible! I hate the 405 as well! But I don't feel so confident about UCLA. I did horribly in the GRE but the school said they don't care as long as you have a good GPA, good letters and good experience. Which I have, but I guess I will find out around March whether this is true. I also went to the info session and I never heard anything about a ranking system. Maybe you spoke to different people than me. Oh well. Im just playing the waiting game. Congrats on getting into CSUDH's program!
MSW Bound Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 They had a diversity fair late last year. One of the individuals on the admissions committee was in my breakout group. I asked him if they used a ranking vs rolling admissions system and he said yes. I have spoken to people that are current MSW students that had horrible GRE's and average GPA's. The main focus is your statement. The individual that sits on the admissions board echoed the same sentiment. If your statement is strong then you will be fine! Best to you and thank you for the congratulations, I am beyond excited.
KMSW Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 Hey! For those of you who applied to UCLA I got an email yesterday letting me know they received all my documents and that Admission decisions will be made no later than March 30, 2012. It's getting closer!! Did anyone get a similar email?
Inspired10 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Darn it, I didn't get that email. Hopefully we hear something soon!
SocialWorker1214 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I am currently finishing the BSW program at CSULB, applied to UCLA MSW program in December, and will be turning in my application tomorrow for CSULB MSW program. UCLA is my first choice. I hope I get in!
KMSW Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 I hear great things about the CSULB program. I hope I get in to all programs and hope that you get in to your first choice! Good luck!
rjose Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Thanks KMSW - I hope we all get into our choices also! Is UCLA your top choice?
KMSW Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Im scared to say that it is. If I get accepted it will be my first choice. LOL I went to the diversity fair and i was impressed with the school. Small cohort and I feel that I would be able to do a little of everything. Im interested in clinical work and also advocacy. But I hope I get accepted to all the schools. This waiting game is killing me!!!! Did you complete your FAFSA??

rjose Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 No, I have not done my FAFSA. I'm waiting on my parents to get their W2 Forms. Do you know if certain schools what you to have your FAFSA done by a certain time?
KMSW Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 Future MSW 2012-Hopefully you get in! But why did you only apply to 1 school? Its good to have options. Although many of my friends kept telling me to apply to the USC program. But even if i got accepted I wouldn't consider it one bit. I only applied to schools that I would seriously consider. But if UCLA is the only school you want to attend, I'm cheering for you!! Also, when did you submit your app? rjose-As long as you complete your FAFSA by March 2nd. I completed my FAFSA on Sunday and got an email Monday telling me the schools already have access to my FAFSA. I was like WOW! So soon! Which caused more stress cause of this waiting game Im right on track with everything and hoping i get my decision letters, or emails, or calls soon.
Inspired10 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Future MSW 2012 - How funny, you and I are on the same boat!
rjose Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Thanks KMSW, I'll be submitting my FAFSA sometime this week!

Originally I was going to apply to a lot of different schools but then some things happened in my personal life and I got overwhelmed with my classes (I am still in undergrad), so I decided to not apply to the other schools and just apply to my top choice school to see if I get in. If I do not get in, I will just apply for more schools next year. I considered USC but it is just way too expensive... I submitted my application on the January 15th deadline Edited February 2, 2012 by Future MSW 2012
